Dear Friends of the BBLA,

Over the weekend, New York City was under the Halloween spell and fervor, the kids were vigorously trick-or-treating everywhere and the Bohemian National Hall was getting ready for a yet another event.

We have been quite busy lately.  Just last week brought a massive celebration of the formation of Czechoslovakia with over 600 guests. The Czech Ambassador to the United Nations Mrs Edita Hrda literally herded close to one hundred Ambassadors including the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr Ban Ki-moon into the ballroom. It was a great celebration and the guests loved our Hall. Continuing with the name dropping, the following day saw the former French President Mr Nicolas Sarkozy attending a private event, an international business gathering, held throughout the building.

I also must congratulate our Franta from Hospoda for becoming the World Champion Beer Bartender on October 8, in Plzen. I am sure you will want to sample a crisp Pilsner served by our maestro. Do not be shy and let Franta show you how the beer is poured properly. He might even let you do it on your own. I just hope that your results will be more satisfactorily then mine. Cheers to you all.

Together with our trustees, we truly appreciate your continuous support.

See you soon,

JosephBalaz

Lauded for incorporating warm, natural wood finishes to create a "comfortable place to dwell and re-energize," the jury of the 2013 Solar Decathlon, held biennially by the U.S. Department of Energy, has named Czech Technical University as winner of the competition's Architecture Contest, placing them third overall.

Czech Republic earned a score of 98 out of a possible 100 points to win the contest with sustainable AIR House, a concept of "house within a house" inspired by the Czech tradition of spending weekends in "chata" (country house). >> Read more...

Frantisek Stastka who taps beer in Hospoda, a Czech restaurant at Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan, won Pilsner Urquell Master Bartender beer tapping competition held in the city of Pilsner, the Czech Republic. Bartenders from about two dozens of countries took part in the competition - the culmination of an annual program that recognizes the vital role of the bartender in ensuring the beer is served at its best. Congratulations!
