CHAMBER VOICE
Chamber seeks committee representatives

After deliberations earlier in the year, the Chamber Council has determined the new committee structure. The three committees - which include Government Relations, Marketing and Communications, and Member Services and Development - will begin meeting in the near future when meeting schedules are agreed upon.

Each committee will be chaired and overseen by at least one member of the Chamber Council or staff, and we are looking to increase the number of committee participants with volunteers from our membership.

If you are a committed, hard-working individual who wants to implement positive change then one of these committees would be perfect for you.

Mother's Day discounts for our Members

It's nearly the time of year where we all celebrate the women who brought us into the world, cared for us, and raised us to be the people we are today. Mother's Day is this coming Sunday, 8th May 2016. So if you've forgotten about it, or are struggling to find the perfect gift, we're here to give you a helping hand so that you can make your mother's day truly special.

You could pamper your mother with a makeover, with the likes of High Profile Salon offering 15% off. If she prefers the full spa treatment, Hibiscus Spa (Westin Grand Cayman) has 10% off, and they even have a 10% discount on their breakfast buffets.

Recent Chamber addition George Carvalho International Beauty Salon & Spa are also celebrating the day with some discounts...

Have an electrifying time at CUC Business After Hours!

The Cayman Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated its 50th birthday, and 2016 sees one of our Chamber Champion members, Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC), celebrate their 50th too.

CUC have been providing public electric utility for Grand Cayman since 1966, and initiated their operations as the only public electric utility company at that time. Since then, CUC have over 200 members of staff in their employ, with over 90% of those members being Caymanian, indicating that CUC have a true adoration, respect, and care for the wellbeing of the Islands and for those who inhabit them.

BE INFORMED. ESO Business Survey

The latest information session in our BE INFORMED series has been announced. Scheduled for Friday 13th May 2016, the session will focus on the Economics and Statistics Office (ESO) Business Survey.

The ESO Business Survey can be confusing and daunting, especially for those who are completing the forms for the very first time. We are aware of this, so we have arranged our session to make the completion of the documents an easier and more relaxed affair.

ESO employees will be present on the day to both assure you and ensure that the forms are being completed correctly. They will also be prepared to answer any, and all, questions you may have.

Retail potential unlocked in recent SME Workshop

Our SME workshops continued last week, with attendees packing-out the conference room for the seminar on retail potential. SME owners and business individuals alike sat engrossed by the presentations given by the guest speakers invited to divulge their tips-and-tricks.

The guest speakers for the session included senior consultant Samantha Widmer, operations and merchandising specialist Alexandre Tabacoff, and communications & social media marketing expert Trina Savage; all of whom work for Savage Consulting. All three speakers delivered thought-provoking and stimulating speeches, all of which will certainly provide those in attendance with food-for-thought.

The speakers also invited the audience to participate with questions throughout the session, heightening their involvement in the session and enhancing the personal nature of it too.

Mentoring Cayman class cruise through sixth session

The sixth session of this year's Mentoring Cayman class took place last night, Monday 2nd May, with the students and their mentors taking a trip down to George Town Yacht Club. On arrival, they boarded a MarineLand Tour catamaran, and spent the next hour-and-a-half exploring the North Sound area.

This was only the second time during the programme in which all students and their mentors met in a group session. The attendees spent their time on the vessel mingling with one another and discussing their experiences on the course thus far.

In Case you Missed it: Speed Networking Event 22nd April

Our most recent Speed Networking session occurred at the end of last month, and we were treated to some enthralling presentations from an array of different businesses.

Our guests enjoyed a delicious lunchtime spread from Treats, and three lucky people left their peers jealous after winning some fantastic prizes courtesy of Sandy Port.

The Speed Networking sessions are always a fantastic opportunity to showcase your business and to get some always-needed acknowledgement from other business owners in the community.

A comprehensive report on the event can be found on our website, as well as the photos from the event on our Facebook page.
