Chamber Council calls for a review of police service
Police Commissioner David Baines recently announced his imminent resignation, planning to depart his current role at the end of May 2016. Baines has served as Commissioner since 2009, and his departure date will see him leave his post with approximately one year left on his contract.
The Chamber Council continues to pledge our support and confidence in our police service, and we maintain the belief that they are fully committed to their roles of protecting and serving the community and keeping our islands safe. The Chamber Council, however, believes that with the change in command comes an opportunity for reflection and improvement of the service.

Have an electrifying time at CUC Business After Hours!
The Cayman Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated its 50th birthday, and 2016 sees one of our Chamber Champion members, Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC), celebrate their 50th too.
CUC have been providing public electric utility for Grand Cayman since 1966, and initiated their operations as the only public electric utility company at that time. Since then, CUC have over 200 members of staff in their employ, with over 90% of those members being Caymanian, indicating that CUC have a true adoration, respect, and care for the wellbeing of the Islands and for those who inhabit them.

FREE SME Workshop to GROW your business
The Chamber of Commerce offers a variety of free workshops aimed specifically for SMEs.
During these sessions, SME owners can listen to guest speakers who will provide them with some of the vital information they will require to be successful. Whether it is learning to finance appropriately, or whether it is to gather marketing tips to ensure your business is successful, the workshops that we offer here at the Visitors Centre are a must-attend event for every SME owner. The SME workshops for the remainder of 2016 will run biweekly, predominantly on Thursday afternoons. Our next SME workshop, which takes place on Thursday April 28th 2016, entitled 'Unlock your Retail Potential,' will focus on some quick fixes for those suffering from poor sales or minimal foot traffic.

Chamber vision: to become the Catalyst for Positive Change
The Chamber Council and Staff met for a two-day weekend session earlier in February to develop a Strategic Plan that will be implemented for the next three years.
The meetings consisted of discussions aimed at how the Chamber can succeed in our mission to support, promote, and protect the community and businesses of the Cayman Islands. They also discussed ways of how to meet our vision of becoming the catalyst for positive change for our communities, businesses, and government.

Immigration and Labour Reform tops Prioritisation Survey
Immigration and Labour reform was identified as a top priority issue during this year's Prioritisation Survey. The survey was completed by a cross-section of business owners and managers from the Chamber membership, with a total of 53 respondents from 600. The respondents were asked to highlight priorities within areas of business, community, infrastructure, and government.
The most important business needs identified by our respondents were the costs incurred when doing business and business growth. Managing employees and business marketing was also flagged up as being important.

Earth Day: a clean sweep!
Our beautiful Islands in the Caribbean became even more so on Saturday April 16th, as the Chamber of Commerce's Earth Day clean-up saw over 1,500 participants clearing up the litter and debris strewn along our beaches and roads. From beer bottles to syringes, we not only made our Islands a cleaner and more visually pleasing place to live, but we also made it healthier and safer for the members of our community.
We are planning another clean-up event for the Islands towards the Christmas period at the end of this year, and a date will soon be confirmed. So, if you're interested in making our beaches and road look 'merry and bright' for the holidays, please let us know so we can get you signed up!
