Chamber Council speaks out! Work permit system needs to be overhauled; National dialogue on employment issues recommended
According to a recent press report, a Government minister recently blamed employers for the challenges that some Caymanians face in finding employment. According to the report, the Minister said the work permit system has allowed employers to gain "easy access to work permits" without holding them accountable to their business staffing plans. He described the work permit system as "confusion alley" and said it is preventing willing and able Caymanians from finding work. FREE Fraud Prevention Seminars. Spaces still available
The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), present a Fraud Prevention Seminar for retail and bank employees, and business owners on Wednesday, November 4 2015.
There will be 2 sessions: Morning session from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon, and Afternoon session, 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This is the seventh seminar of its kind to be organised by the Chamber of Commerce, the RCIPS and CIMA since 2002 in an effort to inform businesses about how to detect counterfeit currency and episodes of potential fraud including debit and credit card as well as internet fraud. Representatives from the RCIPS Financial Crime Unit, US Secret Service, De La Rue and CIMA will lead these seminars.

 FREE Micro & Small Business workshops continue The second of a series of free workshops for Small and Micro business owners hosted by the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce, Investment & Environment will be held Thursday, 19 November from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce conference room. "Marketing on a Budget for Micro and Small Businesses" will be presented by representatives from Netclues and will include topics such as strategies to increase sales online, using free online Social Media tools to your advantage, affordable Social Media & Web marketing tips and developing a Social Media campaign on a budget.

Chamber Annual CayShop Expo a hit!
The Islands' largest consumer showcase, the CayShop Expo opened its doors this past Thursday with an invitation-only event at the Arc, Camana Bay and was attended by hundreds. Guests enjoyed a glass of Prosecco upon entering and were served hors d'oeuvres catered by Edoardo's Restaurant while browsing the large variety of products and services on offer by exhibitors. Guests who stopped by the Chamber of Commerce booth were eligible for the grand prize, and congratulations go out to Deb Davidson who was the winner of 2 Cayman Airways tickets!

Full Project Future programme launched by Premier
At a press conference on 2 November, 2015, the Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin and Deputy Governor the Hon. Franz Manderson unveiled the 51 projects selected by Cabinet to be taken forward as part of Project Future, the Government's ambitious and far-reaching programme of public sector reform. Also discussed was the implementation strategy and methodology that will be pursued by the Civil Service.
