Attorneys Huw Moses and Venesha McLean from HSM delivered a comprehensive review of the draft Labour Relations Bill at the Chamber's BE INFORMED membership session on July 22.
During the two and a half hour presentation, they reviewed several provisions of the bill: contract of employment, statement of working conditions, hours of work, leave, redundancy, severance pay, termination for serious misconduct, warnings, performance warning, termination of fixed term contracts, unfair dismissal, the established retirement age and health, safety and welfare additions. CELEBRATE Tomlinson
Furniture and Mattress Gallery's Grand Re-opening Members are invited to celebrate the grand reopening of Tomlinson Furniture and Mattress Gallery on Thursday, 13th August at their newly constructed showroom on the corner of Walker's and Hospital Roads.
Gift bags will be distributed to the first 200 members and guests and each will receive coupons for 10% off purchases made during September. Guests will also receive a chance to win prizes valued at more than $10,000 including a dinette set, sofa set and a mattress set.
Tomlinson Furniture is celebrating its 40th anniversary and will be launching a special sale the day following the Business After Hours from 14th - 31st August.
Chrissie and Anthony (Tony) Tomlinson started Tomlinson Furniture in 1975 in the old McDonald building where Fidelity Bank is located currently. Initially it was a one stop home store where customers could purchase appliances as well as furniture and even bicycles and parts. As the business expanded, the Tomlinson's purchased the old Martinez family home at the junction of Walker's and Hospital roads and remodeled it, becoming the home of Tomlinson Furniture until 2013.
When Mr. Tomlinson passed away in 2007, he left the business to his daughter, Jacqui Tomlinson-Smith and in 2009, with her daughter Renee Whorms, who became the store manager, they expanded the product offerings and developed the Mattress Gallery which opened in the old PMC building in 2012. In 2013, the old building was demolished and a new three storey building was built by McAlpine with Jacqui's son, Vaughan Smith, serving as project manager. The new Tomlinson Furniture and Mattress Gallery reopened in June 2015. Let's celebrate the successful launch of this family business.

The Chamber Seeks Mentors
The Chamber of Commerce wants you, our community leaders, to be a part of the 2015/2016 Mentoring Cayman programme!
There are many ways in which to spend your leisure time, but none as rewarding than giving the gift of time to a young Caymanian or legal resident in their pursuit of excellence.
The students are selected by their principals and must be top achievers in their class to qualify as there are only 50 spots available.
Mentors have this incredible opportunity to provide personal and professional advice to up and coming, bright and motivated students. Training opportunities for all mentors will be provided. If you would like to be a change agent, register your interest in the Mentoring Cayman programme and let's continue to build a stronger Cayman, beginning with our youth. Contact Trisha Meyerhoff at admin@caymanchamber.ky for further details.
