The cost of doing business, the cost of living, public sector reform, crime and public safety, Government bureaucracy and inefficiencies and the limited supply of local labour in highly skilled and unskilled positions to meet the needs of an expanding economy remain top advocacy issues identified by the membership for the Council to address with Government and public sector leaders.

COSME Officials return to Cayman - SME Grant Scheme to be discussed
 

A representative from the Boosting Caribbean OCT Enterprises (COSME) initiative for small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) will be returning to the Cayman Islands to meet with small business owners to provide information to local businesses and business support organisations (BSOs) interested in applying for direct assistance grants. Mr. Samuel K. Kruiner, Private Sector Development Expert/SME Expert (British OCTs) will be leading the presentation.

Speed Networking to begin this week! 
 

The Chamber is introducing its new initiative "Speed Networking" on Thursday 18th June from 12.30 - 1:30 p.m.

                                                                                                

Speed Networking will provide the opportunity for members to introduce and showcase their business and themselves to other participants in a  5 minute time frame. The networking takes place in a social environment with the prospect of creating and developing new business contacts and connections.

 

Lunch will be provided and a raffle will be drawn at the end of the session.

Chamber Pension Plan Board strengthened by new Trustee
 
Accounting professional Nicole Makin was recently voted in as a new volunteer Trustee on the Chamber Pension Plan Board, representing the Hospitality & Tourism Employee sector.

Ms Makin moved to Cayman in 2005 where she worked for the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman as Credit Manager, now Grand Cayman Beach Suites. Since 2008, she has held the role of Financial Controller.

 

"It's a great honour to be appointed as Trustee to the Chamber Pension Plan Board and I'm very much looking forward to working alongside my fellow trustees in the coming years," Ms Makin said.

First Ken Blanchard Training Course a huge success

10 students attended the Sold Out and first of six courses by the renowned management guru and one of the most well-known and respected practitioners in the field of leadership development, Ken Blanchard, on June 10.

"Core Leadership Skills" facilitated by Xenia Goddard who is a Ken Blanchard Partner and Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences at St. Matthew's University in the Cayman Islands, dealt with leading, influencing, and building more positive relationships in the workplace by learning these core leadership skills: Earning Trust, Listening, Goal Setting, Redirecting, Reprimanding and Praising.

Mentoring Cayman wraps up its 18th year!

 

The Closing Reception for the Mentoring Cayman Programme, a joint initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Community Affairs, Youth and Sports will take place on Wednesday, 17th June 2015 at Government House.

Her Excellency the Governor Mrs. Helen Kilpatrick, CB Patron of Mentoring Cayman and Chamber President Barry Bodden will be presenting the participating Mentors and students with their awards and certificates.
