Minister Tibbetts outlines plans to revitalize George Town

 Minister D. Kurt Tibbetts, Minister for Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure, provided members with an update on his Ministry's plans to revitalize George Town at the membership luncheon on Thursday, 30th April at the Wharf Restaurant.
Minister Tibbetts said the George Town Revitalization Project is not just a facelift or a beautification project. "It is meant to be a true restoration of our Capital into a bustling, mixed-use neighbourhood for businesses, residents and tourists that visit our shores. READ MORE>>

New Trade and Business Licensing Law becomes effective Summer, 2015
The new Trade and Business Licensing Law will become effective in Summer, 2015. The new legislation is expected to lead to a more structured business licensing regime by:
* Providing necessary authority for the Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) and the Trade and Business Licensing Board to function more effectively: * Offering business comfort and ease of business registration * Providing clear obligations to the Board, DCI and Enforcement * Providing a regulatory framework for the Liquor Licensing Law, Film Exhibition Control and Second Hand Dealers * Curtailing illegal vending

Chamber sponsors Small Business Expo
The Chamber sponsored and exhibited in the Department of Commerce and Investment's (DCI) Small Business Expo on 18th April at the Family Life Centre. President Barry Bodden participated on the small business panel discussion.
The Chamber promoted its newly designed website, www.caymanchamber.ky, and the course offerings for the Professional Development and Training Centre.

 Mentors and Mentees Enjoy Cruise on the Cayman Explorer On May 4, 2015, the mentors and mentees on the Chamber of Commerce's Mentoring Programme were invited to an outing on MarineLand Tour boat, the Cayman Explorer. The group got the opportunity to socialise and network with their peers as the boat cruised the North Sound passing the mangroves and ending at Kaibo, where they disembarked to spend a few minutes with their peers on shore.  Cox Lumber opens new store in Bodden Town Cox Lumber celebrated the grand opening of a new location in Bodden Town on 1st May. The new 11,000 square foot retail store has two warehouses, an interior and exterior door shop, and asphalt paved lumber yard. Construction on the new building started in October 2013.

 New e-Government Group starts work A new gov.ky service portal should be launched by year-end, with enhanced customer services and improved public sector efficiencies being two primary objectives. The new e-Gov Steering Committee (EGSC) first met this month to begin this work. Led by co-Chairpersons Deputy Governor Franz Manderson and Councillor Alva Suckoo MLA, the group commenced work on Thursday, 16 April 2015. The overall goals are to improve the experience of customers, especially by reducing time and costs in the delivery of services.
