Nearly four years ago, The Reverend Will Scott began serving

St. Cyprian's. On June 23rd, he will be leaving us to pursue employment beyond the church. We are grateful for his visionary leadership and compassionate service. As the Bishop of California, The Right Reverend Marc Handley Andrus, told Will in accepting his resignation: "You, in partnership with the laity and other clergy associated have, by the grace of God done extraordinary work during your tenure. St. Cyprian's will be in a strong position to move into a new and much more hopeful future because of your work."

During Will's four years with us, St. Cyprian's began a journey of renewal and growth. We have embraced our surrounding neighborhood and been embraced in return. We have addressed long-deferred maintenance issues, from the top of our tower to the foundation of our kitchen.  We have pronounced God's blessing on bikes and pets in the Panhandle, been blessed by the gifts of nearby college students, and celebrated the blessings of our congregation's rich history of perseverance, resilience and creative adaptation.  We have opened our doors on Sundays and nearly every day of the week for after-school programs, summer camps, senior lunches and concerts.  We have opened our hearts to the creative and inclusive Spirit that abides within each one of us and animates this unique city. Will's preaching, pastoral care, teaching, community organizing and administrative skills have nurtured and sustained us, and we look forward to hearing where and how the Spirit leads him to serve next.

In the coming weeks and months, you will be hearing more from the St. Cyprian's lay leadership team. The Bishop of California will appoint a new clergy person to serve here and we look forward to embracing this next chapter in our life together at Turk and Lyon.  As our mission statement says, "everyone matters," and as congregation members, friends, and neighbors, your voice and presence matter more than ever.  Please keep St. Cyprian's in your prayers as we undergo this transition, and join with us, especially on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 10:10 a.m., to welcome the Spirit of transformation and hope into our community as this church has done for over 90 years.

Faithfully,

St. Cyprian's Bishops Committee
