Dear Friends, Neighbors and Members of St. Cyprian's,

Last Sunday, we celebrated Christ's Resurrection. This coming Sunday, April 7th, the church continues to celebrate the mystery of Easter as we read how the Apostle Thomas wished to put his finger in Jesus's wounds--he wanted proof that the stories were true.

This Sunday, our hearts will be full as we see proof of the incredible story of St. Cyprian's.  We will be grateful in recognizing the committed lay ministry of our long time faithful member Lee Dora Rigmaiden.  We will be honored in welcoming Presiding Bishop & Primate of the Episcopal Church Katharine Jefferts Schori.  Finally, we will be joyful as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of our remarkable church.  You may wonder yourself whether all this is really happening, and like Thomas you may want proof, so come and see!

Our special guest for the 90th anniversary, Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, is leading The Episcopal Church confidently through a time of tremendous change.  Bishop Katharine is renowned for her compassion and keen insight.  This Easter, noting the popularity of Lenten disciplines across a broad range of people (Christian and otherwise), Bishop Katharine observed, "There is a deep hunger in our collective psyche to re-orient our lives toward life and light, healing and peace."  While St. Cyprian's has changed immensely over nine decades, surely the hunger of our congregation for these essential divine gifts has been constant.

Bishop Katharine is also globally celebrated as the first woman in the world to serve as a Primate in the Anglican Communion.  (An Anglican primate is the chief bishop or archbishop of one of the 38 provinces of the Anglican Communion.)  A person of exceptional achievement, Bishop Katharine is a trained oceanographer, licensed pilot and speaks Spanish fluently.  Her coming to celebrate with us is an exciting opportunity to reflect on how the stories, struggles, hopes, dreams, and work of this unique congregation over the past 90 years sync with the larger institution of which we are part.  Some of us may find we can relate to Bishop Katharine's story.  Like St. Cyprian's, she too has been an outsider at times: some parts of the Anglican Communion have yet to embrace women bishops or even the ordination of women at all.

Since 1923, St. Cyprian's has been many things to many people, and we celebrate them all--and all who have been part of the first 90 years.  This Sunday is for all of us--and I hope you will join the festivities.

See you soon at Turk and Lyon!

Peace,

Will
