What Does End-of-Life Care Mean to You?

While Vermont leads the nation in many areas of health and overall quality of life, the state is ranked near last for use of hospice care. Hospice is widely recognized as superior care for persons at the end of life.

So, why then are so few Vermonters accessing this care?

How are Vermonters being cared for at the end of life? A statewide study, commissioned by VNA's Madison-Deane Initiative, is exploring these questions and is seeking input from Vermonters across the state through an online study.

VNA believes that the results of this study will inform health care providers about the care Vermonters desire for themselves and their loved ones at the end of life.

CLiF Reading Event at the Family Room

Families gathered together on June 23 at the VNA Family Room for a storytelling presentation as part of a grant from the Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF).

CLiF awards Summer Readers grants to organizations serving kids at high risk of experiencing a "summer slide" in literacy skills. Research shows that children who don't read over summer vacation tend to lose literacy skills while children who do read improve their reading abilities.

There was a lot of energy and excitement in the room at the end of the presentation when each child was able to select two new books out of the hundreds of titles available. Thanks to CliF for this opportunity.

100 Days
of VNA Love

There is a trend on social media where for 100 days, a person is challenged to find the positives and be happy with who they are.

VNA has started a similar challenge on Facebook. For 100 days, we will post a daily photo of a staff member with a quote about why they love working for the VNA.

Here's a sample:

Gail H - Adult Day Program at Prim Road says, "I love working at the VNA because to me it's a mission out of love. It doesn't feel like a job. We're like a family."
