Take a Seat in the Islands!

Scattered around the Champlain Islands this summer are 19 beautifully hand-painted benches. All the work of local artists, these benches are a part of Take a Seat in the Islands community art project and fundraiser. The benches can be seen at restaurants, stores, orchards and other locations around the islands until August 15 when they will then be sold in a live-auction event, led by Jamie Polli of Game Shows VT.

The free event is presented by the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by KOOL 105. Proceeds from the auction will go to both the local artists and the Visiting Nurse Association care in the Champlain Islands.

The auction will take place:

Friday, August 15

Starting at 6:30 pm

at North Hero Community Hall

Maps of bench locations can be found at businesses around the islands and at the Chamber offices in Burlington and North Hero.

For more information, call the Chamber's Islands branch at (802) 372-8400 or (800) 262-5226 or visit www.vermont.org.

Start the Conversation Facilitator Training

The VNA is looking for volunteer community facilitators for Start the Conversation, a program of the VNA and our sister home health and hospice agencies in Vermont. The purpose of this program is to increase public awareness of end-of-life care, encourage conversations about end-of-life goals and support advance care planning.

As a facilitator, you will lead group discussions to talk about care options, identify important issues to address now and provide tips and strategies for how to have these conversations.

We'll hold a facilitator training:

Start the ConversationTuesday and Thursdays from 6-9 pm

September 4 -23

At the VNA Prim Road office, Colchester

The training will also include a full-day skills-building workshop on Saturday, September 20 from 8 am- 3 pm

The training is free and will cover information about palliative and hospice care, advance care planning and specific Vermont laws related to rights at end of life. It will also focus on group facilitation and communication techniques.

To sign up or learn more about this training opportunity, please contact Karyn Carstensen at carstensen@vnacares.org  or call Christine Werneke at 860-4436.
