ADHD/ Executive Functioning
Education, Coaching, and Support

For Parents, Students and Teachers
News from PTS Coaching
Volume 7, Issue 4

Hi all,
I recently returned from freezing Chicago where I attended the national Learning Disabilities Association Conference.  I did not get to attend as many of the presentations as I would have liked since I had my own booth to tend to.  Fortunately, my daughter joined me at the conference and she was able to feed me knowledge from the sessions (and food!) and stood in as I took the occasional break.

It was a wonderful opportunity to interact with Special Education Teachers, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, and parents.

The good news - there is so much more we all can do to help all learners learn as they need to.  Bottom line - we need to REDUCE the stress in academic learning, utilize technology to support reading and writing, explicitly teach kids how to manage their emotions to support their learning efforts, and let kids have more time to develop before increase the demand on them - and on teachers, any further.

The bad news... we still need to find a way to integrate all of these wonderful programs so that kids can take advantage of them without feeling different, less than, separate, etc.  Too many bright, wonderful kids are struggling just because they don't follow a straight line to learn.

Below is some information on my upcoming programs.  Press on the Blue title to bring you to fuller descriptions.  As always, reach out if you have any questions or need support.
All the best,
Cindy

ADHD How it's Different in Girls
An ADHD diagnosis is far more common in males than females.  However, many girls are often undiagnosed in childhood and only later in life realize that they, too, fit the diagnostic criteria.  This lack of timely diagnosis and treatment has the potential to create far-reaching consequences academically, psychologically and socially, particularly in teenage girls. Why aren't girls diagnosed with the same frequency as boys?  The answer is that ADHD has a tendency to look very different in girls.                                    [read more]
