News from PTS Coaching
Volume 7, Issue 3

Ah, the drag of winter.  I try when possible to look at the bright side. I find on these cold, dreary days that I am actually more content to sit at home and move at a slower pace.  As a result - I actually finally get to cleaning out that over crowded cabinet shelf, sift through accumulated papers of "important but not crucial stuff", and read - a pleasure I enjoy but rarely make the time for.
If you would like a good book - one that will inspire you to shift the way you parent or teach, please read my review of Lost at School.  It is one of the top 10 books I feel all people who work with children of any age should read.
Stay warm and remember - we are closer to spring than were a few weeks ago!

Announcing a new Support Group for Teenage Girls
And
New dates for Calm and Connected Workshop
 See details below.
Lost at School

As a follow up to his immensely successful and insightful book, The Explosive Child, Ross Greene has brought us inside the complex world of children and teachers in school with his book, Lost At School.

Dr. Greene elaborates on the use of Collaborative Problem Solving, the recognized evidence-based practice that has been successful in helping children who struggle to manage frustration and flexibility, often resulting in their "explosive" behaviors or "meltdowns." Through the use of real life scenarios woven throughout the book, Dr. Greene is able to clearly demonstrate the positive outcomes that result when teachers and administrators integrate the steps of Collaborative Problem Solving with children and teens.

Recognizing that children with behavioral problems are often lacking the appropriate skills needed to self-manage, CPS teaches these students needed skills and helps them solve problems in a collaborative, mutually satisfactory manner.

Support Group for Teenage Girls

Is your teenage daughter struggling?

Is she often overwhelmed?

Anxious about school performance?

Struggling with social issues?

Experiencing low self-esteem and/or engaging in risky behaviors?

Having trouble getting organized and managing time?

ADHD in girls looks different and is far more likely to go undiagnosed and to exist without the academic services or accommodations that boys typically receive.

This support group will examine the impact ADHD has on teenage girls, helping them develop an understanding of the way their unique brains work and addressing some of the challenges that girls with ADHD face.

Empower your daughter to feel her strengths, not just her deficits!

Group begins Wednesday, March 12th and

runs from 8-9pm for 4 consecutive weeks.

Facilitated by:

Cindy Goldrich, Ed.M., ACAC and Marj Harrison, M.A., Ed.M., ACC

Registration for the 4 session program $40/week with

full payment due upon registration.

Please email Cindy@PTScoaching.com or call 516-802-0593 for more information and to register.

Parenting Tip of the Month
People with ADHD often have a difficult time settling to fall asleep. Encourage your child to keep a notepad by their bed to jot down thoughts or concerns to store them until the morning.

I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made the feel.
