Teacher Feature

Introducing one of the District's many wonderful teachers each month

Andy Cunningham, Academic Literacy Teacher

Cunningham, 36, teaches eighth-grade Academic Literacy classes, blending literary analysis, discussions, blog-writing, creative research projects and even drama into an engaging potpourri aimed at sharpening interpretive skills, making connections with the world and expanding horizons.

"He's just really fun," said Hannah Cropper, who's in one of Cunningham's five classes. "He makes the class fun by having different activities."

Program gives high school students chance to do hands-on lab work with Penn State faculty
female high school student in lab
Through the State College Area High School Health Professionals program, high school students can earn two non-degree credits at Penn State and two credits at State High by spending two semesters in a lab at University Park under the direction of a Penn State faculty member.

Helping Hands Fair at Easterly Parkway

For the eighth year, Easterly Parkway's teachers and PTO organized the evening fair as a means of showing students the importance of community service. About 20 stations set up in the gym, hallways and classrooms offered chances to construct something for the benefit of mostly local nonprofit organizations and human service agencies.

Joined by their parents and siblings, students roamed among the stations amidst excited shouts and laughter.
