State High Project Update
 
Information Fair Oct. 29 
Please join us! An Information Fair regarding the State High Project will be held Wednesday, October 29, from 6-9 p.m., at State High South. The design team will present a project development update now that the design is 30% complete. The public is invited to ask questions, provide input, and attend breakout sessions regarding specific aspects of the project.
 
30% Design Review: Key Dates 
Oct. 6: Board Work Session on High School Project Financing 
Oct. 9: Monthly Citizens Advisory Committee for Facilities meeting  
Oct. 13: 30% Design Review for the School Board of Trustees 
Oct. 17: 30% Design Review for high school staff

Teachers in the Spotlight
Making It real

Ron and Michelle Shealer's
article "Making It Real" was published as the cover story in the October issue of the national journal Technology and Engineering Teacher. It outlined their cooperative, multigrade, 3D design project involving a first grade class and eighth grade tech ed students to design and build an ideal "green" model community using 3D printers and solar collectors. Ron is a Mount Nittany Middle School technology education teacher and Michelle teaches first grade at Corl Street. Read their story: http://www.iteea.org/Publications/TTT/oct14.pdf

Social Studies and the Young Learner Lorraine McGarry, teacher at Park Forest Elementary and Donnan Stoicovy, Park Forest Elementary principal, authored an article recently published in the journal Social Studies and the Young Learner. Read the article 

In their article "Writing a School Constitution: Representative Democracy in Action," they detail a yearlong project during which students wrote a code of rights and responsibilities that included the authentic experiences of electing representatives and holding a constitutional convention.
Middle Schools ROAR
Students at MNMS show their Roar!
ROAR is a middle school-wide comprehensive effort that strives to integrate critical elements of middle level advisory, anti-bullying, restorative practice and positive behavior support initiatives to foster and maintain a safe, supportive, nurturing middle school climate that effectively promotes responsive teaching and learning. Hear them roar and learn more!
MNMS Technology Education is
"Program of the Year"
 MNMS Technology Education teachers, left to right: Josh Price, Ron Shealer, and Doug Arnold.
The Mount Nittany Middle School Technology Education program has been selected for the Technology and Engineering Educators Association of Pennsylvania (TEEAP) Middle School Program of the Year Award. MNMS will be recognized at the November state conference in Camp Hill and the April national conference in Wisconsin. Their application was nearly 35 pages long.

Homecoming Week Activities: 
October 6 to 11 

Spirit Days: Students and faculty are encouraged to support State High by wearing themed items all week.

Homecoming Parade
The Homecoming parade will be held rain or shine on Thursday, Oct. 9. The parade begins at the North Bldg Parking Lot at 6 p.m. It proceeds down Westerly Parkway toward Allen St., turns left at light, proceeds past Fairmount Avenue, then turns left at Nittany Ave. All floats will disband at Central Office.

Homecoming Football Game
Friday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. at Memorial Field vs. Harrisburg
Homecoming Court honored at halftime, King and Queen will be announced.

Homecoming Dance
Saturday, Oct. 11, 7-10:30 p.m. Grades 9-12, dress is semi-formal, cost $10, Mount Nittany Middle School
