Last Chance to Take a Tour: Students will lead tours of the high school buildings. Tours leave from the South Building main entrance.

Come out Saturday morning May 17 and have coffee with the board and/or take a tour. State High Senior selected a Presidential Scholar
Alicia Lai, State High senior, has been selected as a 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholar. Lai is one of 141 outstanding American high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community. Scholars will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington D.C., from June 22-25. The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by President Obama, selects honored scholars annually. Of the more than 3,900 candidates who qualified this year only 141 scholars are selected. Each scholar is offered the opportunity to name his or her most influential teacher. Alicia named Gregory Somers, math teacher at State High.

Keystone Exams at State High
State College High School will administer Keystone Exams for Algebra I and Literature (11th grade English) on Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21.
Biology Keystones will be administered on Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23.
On these testing days, we will administer tests from 8:10 a.m. to 10:05 a.m., and then conduct periods 1 - 8 following the 2-hour delay schedule. Students who are not testing may come to school at 8:10 a.m. for quiet study in the cafeteria, or stay home and arrive at 10:05 a.m.
Make-up exams for students who happen to be absent will occur the week of May 27 - 30.

Math Accomplishments
PA Math League: Eleven students qualified to participate in the American Invitational Math Exam (AIME) this year by virtue of their outstanding scores on the American Mathematics Competition. Alicia Lai, Joseph Lin, Sicong Shen, Lear Du, Noah Kaplan, Rosalie Sowers, Jacob Van Hook, David Yang, Mahima Kumara, Vandana Agarwala, Joseph Feffer.
Eighth grade student Joey Feffer further qualified for the USA Junior Math Olympiad for his additional achievement on the AIME. Only about 230 students across the country are selected for this very prestigious exam.
Our high school students took second place in the Pennsylvania Math League (PAML) competition this year, narrowly missing first place by a single point. Approximately 150 competing schools participate. Junior Joe Lin was one of only three students in the state with a perfect score. Additionally, Joey Feffer, Jacob Van Hook, Lear Du, Vincent Liu, Rosaleen Xiong, and Mahima Kumara all scored in the top 30 in the state.
PFMS students placed third and MNMS students placed 13th in the state in PAML for 7th grade. PFMS students placed second and MNMS students placed fourth in the state in PAML for 8th grade.
Math Counts: Park Forest Math Counts Team won first place (State Champions for the third time in the past 4 years). Team members include 8th grader Thomas Sowers and 7th graders Aaron Li, Jack Piazza, and Julian Sim. Mt. Nittany earned third place at states. They were represented by Joey Feffer, Jackie Feffer, Jasmine Cao, and Josh Miller.
Math Counts State Ranks for PFMS of over 2,500 students: ninth place: Aaron Li, 13th place: Jack Piazza, 25th: Julian Sim, 31st: Thomas Sowers, 46th: Baron Cao
Joey Feffer (Mt. Nittany) - first place in Math Counts state written competition, advanced to National Competition in Orlando, FL.
PFMS math teacher Rebekah Sjoberg is coaching the Pennsylvania team at the National Competition in Orlando.
Intermediate Math League (IMLEM - PA): Park Forest Middle School was undefeated for the season and earned the highest team score ever recorded in PA. William Huang (PFMS) was second in the league. Ben Nasal, Lauren Connelly, Jack Piazza (all PFMS), and Jasmine Cao (MNMS) tied for fourth. Enrico Green (PFMS) and Josh Miller (MNMS) tied for eighth.

Annual Thespian Cabaret Fundraiser, May 31
Scenes, songs, and production numbers selected and directed by State High Thespian Seniors. Featuring gourmet hors de oeuvres and desserts with a Silent Auction at intermission.
Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 p.m., tickets $10, general admission at the door, High School North Auditorium. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
