Feb. 14, 1 p.m. - Home, Charter, Private school registration meeting for 2014-15 at High School South Auditorium. Learn about the academic options offered through the high school and Delta.

Chris Warren, State High Building Construction Instructor

 

Chris Warren is proud of his building construction students, especially for winning the first place award for Outstanding Student Chapter of the National Association of Home Builders at the International Builders Show in Las Vegas February 5. Building Construction integrates the latest classroom technology and techniques. Students learn first-hand by working directly with the PA Builders Association and local businesses and by providing community service.

Mr. Warren has taught building construction in the Career and Technology Center since 2009. He is a board member of the PA Builders Assoc., a Certified Building Official and has presented at PSU PA New Teacher Workshop. Prior to joining the CTC, he led several building, construction, and land development companies.   
Straight Talk for Parents
Stewards of Children
Feb. 18 - 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Mount Nittany Middle School

Straight Talk for Parents presents Stewards of Children. Stewards of Children is a two-hour, evidence-informed training program that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for parents, youth-serving organizations, and other concerned community members. See more

State High Project Upcoming Events

Community Conversation, Feb. 17, 7-8 p.m., High School South library. Come early and tour the buildings at 5:30 p.m. Tour leaves from High School South auditorium lobby.   

Neighborhood Conversations:
Feb. 26, 7 p.m., Park Forest Elementary School
all purpose room.
March 5, 7:30 p.m., Gray's Woods Elementary School, all purpose room
A conversation about the State High Project in your local elementary school. Everyone in the neighborhood and the public is invited. You'll view a short presentation and then discuss, ask questions, give feedback about the State High Project. Board members and administrators will be there to answer your questions. Watch for a conversation in your neighborhood elementary school. Please join us.

High School Parent Curriculum Night
at State High South
6:30 p.m., Feb. 19, 2014
Parents receive information about available courses, the course selection process and have an opportunity to interact with teachers and administrators.
Ocean Bowl Team places second
in national bowl

The State High Ocean Bowl team placed second at the annual Chesapeake Bay Bowl in Lewes, Del., on Feb. 1. From left to right: Sheila Abruzzo, advisor, Kristine Lai, Carol Hundal, Alicia Lai, Eli Jaenicke, Gopal Jayakar, Susan Braun, advisor.

Competing against 60 top science students from 12 high schools in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., they answered questions spanning oceanography, geology, biology, geography, social science, marine policy and chemistry. The competitors were expected to know details about seafloor sediments, maritime law, tidal dynamics, fish migration and other topics that would have challenged many adults.

Delta Program Open House

Open house for prospective parents and students interested in the Delta high school program. Tour classrooms, speak with teachers, have your questions answered in the student-run Q&A session about this alternative small school. 
Visiting author Robin Moore
to visit all elementary schoolsRobin Moore shares a story

Robin Moore, our Visiting Author, will interact with students at all our elementary schools as part of the PTO-sponsored program. Robin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Penn State and a Master's in Oral Traditions from The Graduate Institute. He serves on the faculty of TGI's Oral Traditions and Writing Program in Bethany, CT.  He has been named National Storyteller of the Year and Author of the Year by the PA School Librarians Association and has written more than a dozen award-winning children's books. Here, Robin shares a tale with students at Mount Nittany Elementary.
