Timeline for High School Project Approved
On Nov. 12, 2012, the Board of School Directors conducted a "kick off" work session with the architects and educational planner for the high school project. Following this meeting, district administration and the architects revised the proposed project calendar and it was accepted by the Board on Nov. 26, 2012. You can find the draft calendar here http://www.scasd.org/Page/19642. The Board will hold another work session on Monday, Dec. 17, to further discuss community engagement for the high school project. The architects and educational planner will also be attending the meeting and provide updates from their respective areas. The first community meeting on the high school project is set for January 23 at 7 p.m. in the High School South Auditorium. The meeting will be preceded by tours of the building.

Fact Finder Appointed

As the District and teachers' union continue to work to reach a contract, the state's Labor Relations Board appointed a fact finder to enter the process at the request of the school district.

The fact finder will take testimony from both sides over their disagreements, examine the dispute and issue his recommendations that could lead to a new contract for the union and district to consider.

The process lasts 40 days and includes both sides providing a summary of disputed issues. A non-public hearing will take place in December with oral and written testimony from both sides. In hopes of settling the dispute, the fact finder will give each side a report of his recommendations. If the recommendations are accepted by both sides, it will become the basis for a new contract. If not, the recommendations will be made public and the sides have another 10 days of public comment before going back to the negotiation table.

"The board remains committed to our teachers and the collective bargaining process. We sincerely appreciate our teachers' continued dedication to students as we work to achieve a fair and equitable contract." said former board president Ann McGlaughlin.
