Dear Scout Instructors,
It's time to check in and see what progress you have all made.
Do you think you should all get together and co-ordinate activities? I would be happy to attend if you think that would be helpful. You are also welcome to use my office as a meeting place or maybe you can meet immediately before or after a troop meeting.
I know some of you are working on:
A troop anti-bullying policy
A presentation on anti-bullying to give to the troop*
Discussing anti-bullying efforts with Cub Scout Dens
I also need your help.
When we were handing out flyers at the LDS church many adult scouters assumed we were developing an anti-bullying policy because bullying was a problem in our troop. I need a way to explain to them that we are involved in stopping bullying in our community (and particularly at school).
This is the "sound bite" I came up with:
Expecting our scouts to stand up and do something when they see someone being bullied is just another way of encouraging them to follow the scout oath and law.
But your words would carry more weight.
Can you send me a paragraph on why you think it is important for scout troops to fight bullying in the community?
I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
*Presentations may include videos from the web. Check out the website below for ideas. If you find a video you would like to include let me know so I can work out the technical details on my computer.
More information on anti-bullying efforts are on the website we are setting up to help other troops develop anti-bullying programs:
