From the Principal

Dear  ,

Your eighth grade student will participate in a required Career Shadow Day experience on Friday, May 15. Through this experience, your student will gain first-hand career exposure in a selected profession in addition to gaining insights and understandings about the world of work. This experience may also help guide your student's decisions as he/she thinks about possible college majors and/or career choices.

In order to participate, your student must complete and take responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Students are responsible for finding a person to shadow.
  • Students are required to dress appropriately for their career site.
  • Students are expected to complete an interview packet with the person they are shadowing and do a follow-up evaluation.
  • Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the career site.

In addition to the Parent Permission Form all students will need to have a Verification of Attendance Form completed as proof that they completed this experience. This form should be signed by the professional they shadow. This form should be returned at the end of the shadow experience along with the student interview form and evaluation form. All forms have been shared online with the students in their Google drive.

Any student who is unable to find a professional in an area of interest will still need to participate in this experience by completing a research paper. Each student will need to research a career of interest. Any student completing the research paper will be working in the library during the May 15th shadow date. I will be providing a rubric for this assignment.

Please have your student return the attached parent permission form to me by Friday, May 8.

Sincerely,

Doug Winston, Guidance Counselor
