Our Lord's Victory Cry, "It is Finished!"

The night before the Lord Jesus Christ went to the cross He prayed to His Father that He had "finished the work you have given me to do" (John 17:4). When we consider all that He had to do to save sinners, His victory cry, "It is finished," speaks volumes. Righteousness had to be perfected, divine justice had to be satisfied, blood had to be shed, redemption had to be paid, sins had to be forgiven, reconciliation had to be accomplished, death had to be conquered, salvation had to be secured, and heaven had to be opened. All this was perfectly accomplished so that eternal life could be offered as a free gift of God's grace to those who trust the all-sufficient Savior.

Only when sinners realize their hopeless and helpless condition can they begin to understand the glorious promises revealed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Everything that man could never do was completely accomplished by our Lord Jesus Christ. His mission to seek and to save the lost culminated on the cross. The work of salvation was finished. The eternal sin debt was paid in full. Since it was an eternal debt, it was impossible for man to pay. But God forgave us "all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross" (Col. 2:13-14).

Jesus "appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" (Hebrews 9:26). Yet Catholicism rejects the Word of God by teaching a Catholic must do "something more to make amends for the sin: he must 'make satisfaction for' or 'expiate' his sins. This satisfaction is called 'penance'" (CCC, par. 1459). What a terrible deception this is for faithful Roman Catholics who look to their church, rather than the Bible, for truth! By adding to the perfect and sufficient work of Christ they have nullified God's grace which is the only means by which God saves sinners (Rom. 11:6). The very purpose Christ became our kinsman redeemer and suffered an excruciating death was to expiate sin, once and for all, by His perfect sacrifice.

Roman Catholicism also rejects another finished work of Christ: the purification of sins. God's Word declares "when He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high" (Heb. 1:3). Those who trust Christ alone are purified from all sin, by His blood (1 John 1:7). Catholicism denies the efficacy of Christ's blood and instead offers a place called "purgatory." It states: "every sin, even venial, entails an unhealthy attachment to creatures, which must be purified either here on earth, or after death in the state called Purgatory" (CCC, par..1472). How can a religion which names the name of Christ reject His precious blood for a fictitious place that robs Him of His glory?

After finishing His all-sufficient work on the cross, Jesus now offers His righteousness as a gift to all who believe (Rom. 5:17). The only way to receive the gift is by faith in Christ alone. Those who are blinded by religious deception must do what the Apostle Paul did. He exchanged his religion for a relationship with Christ. He wrote: "I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith" (Phil 3:8-9).

The Finished Work of Christ for His People

He testified to the truth; listen to Him! (John 14:6; 18:37; Acts 3:22)
He came to give life to people who are spiritually dead. (John 14:6)
He gave us access to the Father. (John 14:6; Mat. 27:51)
He gave His life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28)
He bore our sins in His body on a tree. (1 Peter 2:24)
He died for the ungodly. (Romans 5:6)
He gave Himself up for us as a sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:2)
He died so that we may live together with Him. (1 Thes. 5:9-10)
He gave Himself for us to purify His people. (Titus 2:14)
He died for sins, once for all, to bring us to God. (1 Peter 3:18)
He exchanged our sin for His righteousness. (2 Cor. 5:21)
He has forgiven all our sins. (Col. 1:14)
He purified us from all sins. (1 John 1:7; Hebrews 1:3)
He has reconciled us to God. (Ephesians 2:14-18)
He redeemed us from the power of sin. (Galatians 3:10-14)
He saved us from condemnation. (John 3:18, 5:24)
He delivered us from darkness into His kingdom. (Col. 1:13)
He satisfied divine justice for our sin. (1 John 2:2)
He made us into new creations. (2 Cor. 5:17)
He is the only Name by which man can be saved. (Acts 4:12)

What a glorious and all-sufficient Savior we have in Christ Jesus!
Mike Gendron Disinvited to Conference

For anyone who was planning to hear Mike Gendron speak at the Great Lakes Prophecy Conference in Appleton, WI, Sept. 11-12, please be advised that he has been disinvited. The reason for canceling Mike's appearance was because of an article he wrote: Why Evangelize If God Has Already Chosen? Pastor Dwight Douville said, "As you explain your doctrine of election, I see the main points of Calvinism throughout...right now in our Calvary Chapel movement this is a hot topic and therefore I am sorry but we cannot have you as a speaker."

For 25 years of ministry Mike has pointed people to the supreme authority of God's inerrant, infallible Word for knowing truth and exposing error. He has never encouraged people to embrace John Calvin or "Calvinism." Instead he exhorts people to be good Bereans and to test every man's teaching with Scripture. Roman Catholic apologists want Evangelicals to read and embrace the "early church fathers" because many of their Catholic dogmas cannot be found in Scripture. For the same reason it would not be judicious for us to point people to Calvin or any of the Reformers. Our theology must be established and defended by the Word of God alone. Tragically, the church continues to be divided over the sovereignty of God in salvation. Human pride has an intense dislike of the notion that God controls and rules over everything He has created.

Opponents of divine election teach that man has the free will to choose God and come to Him for salvation. Yet God's Word declares that unbelievers are held captive by Satan to do his will (2 Tim. 2:26). It was Jesus, not Calvin, who said, "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him" (John 6:44). It was Paul, not Calvin, who wrote: "no one seeks God" and "the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ" (Rom. 3:11; 2 Cor. 4:4). It was Paul, not Calvin, who wrote: "The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned" (1 Cor. 2:14).

God is most glorified in salvation when we recognize salvation is all of Him from beginning to end (Phil. 1:6). The only thing man contributes to his salvation is his sin, which nailed our sinless Savior to the cross. It is our Sovereign Lord who chooses, predestines, calls, draws, brings to life, grants repentance and faith, justifies, forgives, redeems, glorifies, and secures all of His elect. As trophies of His sovereign grace, each of His adopted children will sing His praises throughout all eternity. God alone is worthy of all praise and glory and honor!

She previously hosted The Janet Mefferd Showa three-hour nationally syndicated Christian radio show that was heard on over 180 radio stations from 2010-2015. Mike's Comment: It has been my privilege and pleasure to be interviewed by Janet Mefford on controversial but vitally important topics that many other Evangelicals are too afraid to talk about. I admire Janet's courage for fighting the good fight of faith, along with her desire to be biblically correct, while avoiding the temptation to be politically correct. Her clarion voice and her passion for the truth are what Christians need to hear in today's culture of growing compromise and worldliness. Those who tune in to Janet Mefford Today will be better equipped to discern truth from error.

Letters From Around the World

Have you people lost whatever was left of your mind or ever had one to begin with? You seem to take great joy in demonizing the true church of Christ, while going to great lengths to justify the church of the holy trinity of me, myself, and I; the church of the evil one where you authorize yourselves to make a judgment on your own salvation. Where does the bible entitle you to such a lofty position of grandeur? If salvation is as easy as you make it out to be, then explain why the cross of Calvary did not save the devil, or are you going to deny he exists too? The answer is you have no answer. If you want to criticize the Catholicism, by all means do so, but return the Bible to its rightful guardian first, the Catholic Church. Create your own bible. You will be held accountable; not to us, but to God. You are biblical terrorists. Ben, Internet

Mike's Comment: The cross of Christ could not save the devil or his fallen angels because Jesus Christ, the kinsman redeemer, died only for His people.

Dear Mr. Gendron, After reading your book Preparing For Eternity, I felt so grieved in my spirit over the letters that you received from Catholics. Satan has truly blinded the eyes of those who are chained to the teachings of the Catholic Church. However, I appreciated that your defense is found in God's Word which you repeatedly cited. I just want to thank you for your ministry and for standing up for God's truth. I just pray that the eyes of those who don't yet see God's truth and light will be enlightened by the power of the Spirit. E. M., Internet

Mike, Just wanted you to know that I thoroughly enjoy your newsletter.  I was raised Catholic, but even as a child did not ever feel comfortable with their teachings. In my 20s I was unsure of everything and I even doubted that Jesus was real.  I am now 68 years old and have had The Lord Jesus in my heart for over 10 years.  I have come to the realization that the Catholic religion is definitely not true! I have learned so much from reading your very informative newsletter and I just wanted to take the time to let you know.  I have forwarded it to friends and family so that, hopefully, it will open their eyes and heart to the truth! My husband also loves the newsletter. B.R., Cave Creek, AZ

I was a typical Catholic when my son witnessed to me about Jesus. I was angry and told him "how dare you question my religion!" By God's Grace, He pulled me out of this false religion. I have had great pain for my friends and family members still caught in the devil's snare. After 27 years later of searching for someone to teach me on how to witness to Catholics, a friend gave me your phone number and I ordered your resources. I am so in love with the Word of God. Recently, the most wonderful thing happened at our large Bible class..The pastor said something about Catholics and another lady said something else. I asked permission to pass out your tracts that I just happened to have in my purse! They asked me to say a few words about my mission to witness to Catholics; The Spirit of God took over! I also told them about you and your website. They asked for more tracts because there is great need for Christians to have this information in hand. C. P., San Antonio, TX

Why Is The Pope Coming To America?

Pope Francis will attempt to reverse the downward spiral of his approval rating when he comes to America later this month. Only 59% of American Catholics have a favorable view of the pope compared to 76% in February 2014. Many Americans disapprove of his attempt to radically reform the global economy with his socialistic agenda.

The pope will meet with President Obama at the White House on Sept. 23. The next day, the pope will become the first pope ever to address the United States Congress. A spokesman for the pope said, "Francis would have liked to enter the U.S. by crossing the border with Mexico to make a point about welcoming immigrants, not building walls to keep them out." The following day, the pope will address the United Nations General Assembly. He will push for a global government and global religion to manage his sustainable development agenda and to control the world's ecology, economics, and culture. Then he is off to Philadelphia, where he may create more excitement than the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The budget for the papal visit is $45 million, and the mayor anticipates an attendance of approximately 1.5 million people, which is double the city's population.

Mike's Comment: We all need to be become more aware of this Jesuit pope's agenda. He is aggressively pushing for the unity of all religions under the power and authority of the papacy. Since all the religions, except biblical Christianity, have the same DNA, a works-righteousness salvation, his strategy does not have much opposition. As Pope Francis meets with the world's political leaders, it is easy to see how a global religion and global government will unite under a False Prophet and AntiChrist. If you are interested in learning more about prophecy and the pope, I have a message on DVD by that title. Order here.

Iran Leader Calls for Death to the U.S.

Iran's supreme leader hailed the Iranian masses for demanding the destruction of Israel and America, and said he hoped that God would answer their prayers. In a viciously anti-US speech, delivered in Tehran four days after Iran and the world powers signed an accord designed to thwart Iran's nuclear program, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praised "the slogans of the people of Iran" which "indicated what directions they're heading for," according to the English translation of his speech by Iran's Press TV.

Khamenei also vowed in the speech, which was broadcast live on state television, that the nuclear agreement with the major powers would not change Iran's policy against the "arrogant American government" nor would it change the Islamic Republic's policy of supporting its "friends" in the region. The Sufficiency of our Lord Jesus Christ

God's Gospel reveals all the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished to save sinners from the power, punishment, and ultimately, the presence of sin: righteousness had to be perfected, divine justice had to be satisfied, blood had to be shed, redemption had to be paid, sins had to be forgiven, reconciliation had to be achieved, death had to be conquered, and salvation had to be secured.
