Freedom from Religious Bondage and Deception

Former Catholics have described their experience of participating in the weekly Sacrifice of the Mass as a "prison sentence" that was, for the most part, repetitious and boring. They remember attendance at the Mass as being a requirement to avoid committing a mortal sin and incurring the penalty of eternal damnation. The expression on the long, drawn faces of many Catholics during Mass revealed their lack of joy for having to be there. They were not there to worship God in spirit and truth but to fulfill the unbiblical laws of their religion. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC, para. 2180), "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass." Why is this law so demanding? Why are Catholics compelled to participate in the mindless ritual of standing, sitting, kneeling and genuflecting as priests perform their religious duties? Why are Catholics not given the freedom to attend religious services out of love and adoration for their god? The answers are found in the deceptive dogmas of the Catholic Church.

Catholics must attend the weekly sacrifice of the Eucharist in order for the sins committed during the previous week to be forgiven. According to the Catechism, "The Eucharist is a sacrifice because it re-presents the sacrifice of the cross...the sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice: The victim is one and the same. In this divine sacrifice...the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and is offered in an unbloody manner...this sacrifice is truly propitiatory" (CCC para. 1366,1367). In other words, Catholics are taught that divine justice (for their sins) is satisfied every time the Eucharist is offered to God.

Catholics are also taught that their redemption comes through the ongoing sacrifice of the Eucharist. "Every time this mystery is celebrated, the work of our redemption is carried on" (CCC, para. 1405). This blatantly denies the testimony of Scripture. When Jesus ascended into heaven, He "entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption" (Heb. 9:12).

Catholics are given no choice but to believe these deceptive teachings. If they deny the physical presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, they are condemned by their religion. "If anyone denies, that in the sacrament of the most Holy Eucharist, are contained truly, really and substantially the body and blood together with the soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and consequently the whole Christ...let him be anathema" (Canon 1, Council of Trent).

Only the truth of God's Word can set Catholics free from religious bondage (John 8:31-32). "The God who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in tabernacles made with hands; neither is He offered with human hands...the Divine Nature is not like gold, or silver or stone" (Acts 17:23-29). In other words, the divine nature of Christ is not like flour and water, or an image formed by the thoughts of ungodly men. The Lord Jesus Christ cannot be offered by the hands of sinful priests. Jesus Christ, the perfect High Priest, offered Himself, the perfect sacrifice, once for all sin for all time, to a perfect God who demands perfection. He then cried out in victory, "It is finished!" There are no more offerings for sin (Hebrews 10:18). We must call our Catholic friends and loved ones to repentance and faith in the true Christ who must be worshipped in Spirit and truth (John 4:24). It was through Christ's once-for-all death, burial and resurrection, divine justice was satisfied, redemption was paid, sins were forgiven, reconciliation was achieved, death was conquered, and salvation was secured for His people! What a glorious Savior!

Letters From Around the World

Mike, By the grace of God, my son witnessed to me about Jesus. I was a typical Catholic and got angry and told him, "how dare you question my religion!" But by God's grace, He pulled me out of that false religion, I have had great pain for my friends and family members still caught in the devil's snare. After 27 years of searching for someone to teach me how to witness to Catholics, a friend gave me your phone number and I ordered your resources. I am so in love with the Word of God. Last Sunday the most wonderful thing happened at my large Bible Class! The pastor said something about Catholics and a lady said something else. I asked permission to pass out your tracts that I just happened to have in my purse! Then they asked me to say a few words about my desire to witness to Catholics; The Spirit of God took over and I told them about you and your website. They asked for more tracts because there is such a great need for Christians to have this information in hand. Connie P., San Antonio.

Dear Mr. Gendron,  I enjoy listening to you on Worldview Weekend and receiving your monthly newsletter. Your ministry has been an encouragement to me. I am concerned about praying with my Catholic mother-in-law because I want to honor the Lord. She prays at meals when we visit her home. Should we continue to hold hands and bow our head when she prays? My husband and I have talked to her extensively about the errors of Catholicism but to no avail. When she begins talking about her religion I want to ask her to stop, but I don't want to offend her or be rude. Yet I almost feel like we are giving her the impression of agreement. If we point out scripture she becomes agitated. Thank you for any advice! Yours in Christ, Teresa, Springfield TN

Dear Teresa, Yes, you are giving the wrong impression by holding hands and praying with her. Explain to her that, as an unbeliever, she is praying to a different spiritual father (John 8:44). Until she repents I would keep pointing her to Christ and Him crucified (1 Cor. 2:2). Since she has the right to talk about her religion, you have an equal right to talk about your Lord Jesus Christ and the exclusivity of His Gospel. Her agitation probably comes from her inability to defend her religion with the Word of God. You must explain to her that if she continues to reject the Word of God, that Word will judge her on the last day (John 12:48). Continue to pray for God to open her heart and eyes to the truth that will set her free (John 8:31-32).

Rick Warren to Speak at Papal Mass

More than 1.5 million people are expected for the Mass with Pope Francis in Philadelphia in September during the World Meeting of Families. Some of the speakers listed include Cardinal Tagle of Manila, Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston, Scott Hahn, Rick Warren and Rabbi Abraham Skorka. Underlining the ecumenical and interfaith element of the meeting, Archbishop Chaput said 30 percent of the speakers would be non-Catholic. Read more.

Mike's Comment. The Vatican has been looking for compromisers in the evangelical world to help them reverse the Reformation. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in southern California, has been an easy target for many years. In a recent interview he said, "We have far more in common (with Catholics) than what divides us. We believe in the trinity, we believe in the Bible, we believe in the resurrection...Now there's still real differences, no doubt about that. But the most important thing is if you love Jesus, we're on the same team." Rick Warren is not bothered by the fact that Catholics love and trust another Jesus who is unable to save them completely and forever. Clearly, he does not understand or embrace the exclusivity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nor does he seem to care that the Catholic clergy is condemned for preaching another gospel (Gal. 1:6-9). Pope Francis To Be Tried by Sanhedrin

A re-established Israeli Sanhedrin, the religious High Court, has declared that it is putting Pope Francis on trial unless he retracts his statement that the Jews have no right to the land of Israel or to Jerusalem. In February 2013, the Vatican officially recognized the "State of Palestine," but more significantly, the Holy See switched its diplomatic relations from the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the "State of Palestine." The trial and judgment will be on September 20th, 2015. If Pope Francis chooses to ignore the summons, he will be judged in absentia.

The pope's controversial description of Abbas as an "angel of peace" led to the Vatican backtracking and attempts to placate Israel. Pope Francis embraced the Palestinian mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Muhammed Hussein, calling him "dear brother" in a show of great affection. In 2012, Hussein said it was the destiny of Muslims to kill Jews, who he claims are "subhuman beasts and the enemies of Allah." Sheikh Hussein has also praised suicide bombers and said their souls "tell us to follow in their path," remarks the Pope has never condemned. Read more.
Catholic Bishops Blamed for Court's Decision

The U.S. Catholic bishops must step up and own the disastrous decision by the Supreme Court to allow homosexuals to marry. The society turned gay, first culturally and then legally, after the Catholic Church leadership had already blazed the trail. The culture turned gay because the Catholic clergy turned gay first. According to a report by Michael Voris of Church Militant Serving Catholics, "Many bishops and loads of priests have known for years about the dominance of the so-called gay mafia in the Church. Even Pope Francis acknowledged it after his election." His report continues in the following paragraphs.

We have the well-known case of Rembert Weakland, archbishop of Milwaukee, who was blackmailed by his gay lover for half a million dollars and was eventually outed by him anyway. Or Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago under whose tenure homosexual clergy ran wild in the Windy City - and still do. He even had the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus sing at his wake. Then there are scads of bishops who allow or instituted gay Masses, gay clubs, gay social groups all over their dioceses, all in the name of "compassion" and "mercy."

In truth, it is because many of them either are gay themselves, support the gay agenda, or are friendly to the cause for various reasons. Bishop after bishop has turned a blind eye to recruiting of active homosexual men into seminaries. Even to this day, multiple dioceses and archdioceses still have gay Masses said by gay-friendly priests exclusively for a gay congregation. This is beyond scandalous. The people who attend these Masses don't accept the Church's teachings. They scoff at them, ignore them, and work to blunt them. Read more.

Worship Pastor Encourages Unity with Rome

Darlene Zschech, who has published many popular worship albums under Integrity Music and Hosanna labels, is calling for her followers to unite with Roman Catholics. Her most popular Christian hymn has been "Shout to the Lord." Last week, she performed on stage as a headliner at the Vatican's Renewal of the Holy Spirit rally. On her Facebook page, Zschech breathlessly gushed, "The prep has begun in Rome. I can feel the prayers. Honoured to be singing this week, with Andrea Bocelli, Don Moen (Praise & Worship Leader), Noa (Achinoam Nini) with Pope Francis and thousands of worshippers gathering in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican. This is a celebration of unity and peace in the Renewal of the Holy Spirit. Amazing days for the Body of Christ." Read more.
Pope's Approval Ratings Slump

A new Gallup poll shows the pontiff's favorability rating among all Americans dropped to 59% from a 76% peak early last year. This decline may be attributable to the pope's denouncing of 'the idolatry of money' and attributing climate change partially to human activity, along with his passionate focus on income inequality. Some observers have predicted that many who embraced the pope's candor and his views on a range of social justice issues would temper their ardor as they realized he would not change church teachings on hot-button issues such as abortion or contraception or gay marriage. The Supremacy and  Sufficiency of our Lord Jesus Christ

God's Gospel reveals all the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished to save sinners from the power, punishment, and ultimately, the presence of sin: righteousness had to be perfected, divine justice had to be satisfied, blood had to be shed, redemption had to be paid, sins had to be forgiven, reconciliation had to be achieved, death had to be conquered, and salvation had to be secured.
What a glorious Savior we have to proclaim!
