Flee From the Sin of Idolatry

God created us so that we would find our greatest joy in Him when He is our greatest treasure. In light of that glorious truth, there is nothing we should fear more than the wrath of an omnipotent, sovereign God who is angered when people show more reverence to idols. Many ignore the clear and present warnings in His Word to flee idolatry and to keep away from idols (1 Cor. 10:14; 1 John 5:21). God is rightfully jealous of anything we value above Him. This is why His wrath is coming against all idolatry (Col. 3:5-6). His divine commandment is clear: "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God" (Ex. 20:4-5).

It was only a matter of time before God had to demonstrate His righteous anger and holy jealousy against idolatry. The Israelites created and worshipped a golden calf as the god who delivered them out of Egypt (Exo. 32:8). His hatred for idolatry was displayed when He ordered the idolaters to be slain with the sword, and about 3,000 were put to death (Exo. 32:28). We can only wonder why so many religious people, who lift up the name of Christ, would ignore or dismiss such terrifying warnings concerning idolatry.

When Roman Catholics worship a wafer as the Christ who delivers people out of darkness, they are sinning like the Israelites who worshipped a golden calf as the god who delivered them out of Egypt. It is the same blasphemous sin of idolatry that is punishable by death. However, it is a worse form of idolatry because Catholics have reduced the glory of the ascended, immortal and majestic King of kings to a wafer created from flour and water. We must warn Catholics that they are worshipping a false Christ. The true Christ does not return every day to be re-presented as a sin offering on an altar at the beckoning call of a sacerdotal priest. God's Word says He will return a second time, and not in relation to sin (Heb. 9:28). He will not return in the form of a Eucharist, but in the same way He ascended into heaven (Acts 1:11). His glorious return will not take place until after the tribulation (Mat. 24:27-30).

As a former Catholic of over 34 years, I believe many Roman Catholics are committing this mortal sin of idolatry simply because they do not know God's Word. They do not read the Bible because their priests have told them it is too difficult to understand. They are not allowed to interpret the Scriptures on their own because the Bishops are said to be the only ones who can interpret them correctly. Yet Paul presented the truth clearly to every man's
conscience. He renounced the disgraceful, underhanded ways of those who tamper with God's word (2 Cor. 4:2). Catholic Bishops have twisted and distorted Scripture to their own destruction (2 Pet. 3:16). They have also tampered with God's Holy Word by adding their ungodly traditions to it. The only hope for Catholics is to abide in God's written Word. Only then will they know the truth and be set free from religious deception and idolatry (John 8:31-32).

Twisting the Gospel

Peek behind the curtain of some "progressive" or "hip" evangelical churches, past the savvy technology and secular music, and you will find more than just a contemporary worship service. You'll find faith leaders encouraging young evangelicals to trade in their Christian convictions for a gospel filled with compromise. No doubt you have seen the headlines declaring that evangelicalism is doomed because evangelical kids are leaving the faith.

The millennial generation's susceptibility to "feel-good" doctrine is playing a big part in America's moral decline. Millennials' religious practices depend largely on how the actions make us and others feel, whether the activities are biblical or not. For example, we only attend churches that leave us feeling good about our lifestyle choices, even if those choices conflict with God's clear commandments. We dismiss old hymns that focus on God's transforming salvation, love and mercy and opt for "Jesus is your boyfriend" songs. Or we contribute to nonprofits that exploit and misuse terms such as justice, oppressed and inequality because tweaking the language makes us feel more neutral, less confrontational.

Popular liberal evangelical writers and preachers tell young evangelicals that if they accept abortion and same-sex marriage, then the media, academia and Hollywood will finally accept Christians. Out of fear of being falsely dubbed "intolerant" or "uncompassionate," many young Christians are buying into theological falsehoods. Instead of standing up as a voice for the innocent unborn or marriage as God intended, Millennials are forgoing the authority of Scripture and embracing a couch potato, cafeteria-style Christianity, all in the name of tolerance. In order to safeguard the trajectory of young evangelicals, we must uphold the authoritative Word of God. Ten Fatal Flaws of Roman Catholicism

At the Worldview Weekend Conferenced in Branson, MO, John MacArthur responded to some thought provoking questions from the audience. When asked why so few evangelicals are contending for the faith against Roman Catholicism and its ecumenical movement, he said it is because they are ignorant of the errors of Catholicism. The next day, Mike Gendron took the opportunity to inform the audience of the ten most fatal errors of Catholicism. They are listed below:
1) It perverts the Gospel by adding requirements (Gal. 1:6-9).
2) It rejects the Gospel's promise of eternal life (2 Tim. 1:10).
3) It rejects the sovereign, regenerating work of the Spirit with its sacrament of baptism (Eph. 1).
4) Its bishops are false successors of the apostles, having not witnessed the resurrection (Acts 1:21-22).
5) It distorts the Word of God by adding its tradition to it (Prov. 30:6).
6) Its illegitimate priesthood encourages the idolatrous worship of a wafer as Almighty God (Exodus 32).
7) It denies Christ's blood as the only purification for sin (1 John 1:7).
8) It blasphemes God by giving His titles of Holy Father, Head of the Church to the pope (John 14:16; 17:11; Eph. 5:23).
9) It rejects Jesus as the only way of salvation (John 14:6).
10) It follows deceitful spirits and teaches doctrines of demons by forbidding its clergy to marry (1 Tim. 4:1-4). Read more.

The Devil Resides in the Vatican and ISIS is Satan

Roman Catholic priest, Gabriele Amorth, who is the founder of the International Association of Exorcists, has taken to Facebook to confront the Muslim group terrorizing Syria and Iraq and rapidly spreading its influence throughout the Muslim world. "ISIS is Satan," the priest posted on the social-media site. "The political world, which today seems to lack a response in face of the massacre of Christians, will also have to fight ISIS, and it will do it in a different way," said the priest.

Amorth has been willing to go after Satan wherever he finds him, even within the Church itself. In March 2010, Amorth told Italian newspaper La Repubblica: "The devil resides in the Vatican and you can see the consequences. He can remain hidden, or speak in different languages, or even appear to be sympathetic. At times he makes fun of me. But I'm a man who is happy in his work." He added, "the evil influence of Satan was evident in the highest ranks of the Catholic hierarchy, with cardinals who do not believe in Jesus and bishops who are linked to the demon." Letters From Around the World

Dear Mike and Jane, I have enjoyed many hours of learning and growing while listening to and reading your wonderful resources. After our conversion, we shared what we were learning with my husband's Catholic family with very little success. However, Gods' word is powerful, so in spite of our blundering, we still have hope in the imperishable seed of His precious Word. I listen to your broadcasts on Worldview Weekend but I don't think I've heard you talk about Mary being declared a co-mediatrix by the Catholic Church. Is this true? I am really enjoying the new TV programs you are doing with Brannon and look forward to each new one. I would love to see you and your wife doing some of those together! I had the opportunity to meet Jane at your book table when you were speaking in Oklahoma and Myrtle Beach a few years ago. It was a real treat! Thank you so much for your kind and very gracious love for all the Catholics who don't yet know our Lord. Its very clear as you speak how deeply your heart is concerned for their salvation. May the Lord strengthen and protect you as you proclaim the Gospel for God's glory. D.J., Wake Forest, NC

Dear D.J., Thank you for your kind words. To God be all glory and praise! Yes, the RCC dares to say that Mary is a sinless mediator, a teaching which robs the Lord Jesus Christ of His unique position between God and man (1 Tim. 2:5). As God's perfect man and man's perfect God, Jesus is the only one qualified to mediate between sinful men and a holy God. By His one perfect, sufficient and finished sacrifice, He changes the relationship between repenting sinners and a just God from one of hostility and enmity
to one of peace and harmony. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 969, we read, "Taken up to heaven she (Mary) did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation. Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate...and Mediatrix." Adding to this blasphemy, we read, "without a single sin to restrain her, she gave herself entirely to the person and to the work of her Son; she did so in order to serve the mystery of redemption" (paragraph 494). As you can see, the Catholic Church, not only teaches another Jesus and another Gospel, but also another Mary.

Dear Mike, I bought your book Preparing for Eternity to help me witness to a Catholic friend. WHAT AN AWESOME BOOK! It answered questions that I have had about the Catholic religion since I was a child. It also strengthened my faith and my relationship with Christ. The chapter on Mary confirmed the Catholic distortions of Mary originated in the pagan and ancient mystery religions. The chapter, Answers to Questions from Catholics, seemed to indicate that your website must be pretty powerful if it could illicit that much response from Catholics whose consciences were pricked by the truth. Thank you for your wonderful book. I hope to pass it along to others and use other resources from your website. Yours in Christ, Frank N.

Dear Brother, I can think of no ministry on the face of the earth that carries with it the responsibilities and challenges that you must be carrying! Like in Luther's day, the false church must be burning the midnight oil trying to figure out a way to silence Mike Gendron! "Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man" (Luke 6:22). D.S. El Dorado Springs, MO

Presbyterian Minister Does Not Believe in God

A Presbyterian USA minister in Oregon says he doesn't believe in God and doesn't require his members to believe either. John Shuck of Beaverton's Southminster Presbyterian Church first came out as an unbeliever in 2011, generating controversy as to how one could serve as a minister and not believe in the Bible. "God is no longer credible as a personal, supernatural being," he wrote in a blog post on his site "Shuck and Jive." "Jesus may have been historical, but most of the stories about Him in the Bible are legends."  Read more.

The Supremacy and  Sufficiency of our Lord Jesus Christ

God's Gospel reveals all the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished to save sinners from the power, punishment, and ultimately, the presence of sin: righteousness had to be perfected, divine justice had to be satisfied, blood had to be shed, redemption had to be paid, sins had to be forgiven, reconciliation had to be achieved, death had to be conquered, and salvation had to be secured.
What a glorious Savior we have to proclaim!
