The Danger of Following "Infallible" Men

At the end of the Apostle Paul's ministry, he gave us this sober warning: "I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears" (Acts 20:29-31). This grim and prophetic warning concerning false teachers went unheeded, and it continues to be ignored in many churches today.

The Roman Catholic Church, as well as many Protestant churches, have drifted into apostasy because they put aside the authority of God's Word and began following the twisted teachings of men. One of the most preposterous "twisted things" the Catholic Church concocted is the dogma of "infallibility" for its popes and bishops. The dogma of "infallibility" declares that the Church cannot error in her objective definitive teaching regarding faith and morals. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church: "In order to preserve the Church in the purity of the faith handed on by the apostles, Christ who is the Truth willed to confer on her a share in his own infallibility." This is not only a twisted teaching, it is an outrageous scandal! "Infallibility" is just one of several divine attributes the papacy has hijacked from Almighty God. The pope also has the audacity to wear titles given only to the triune God - Holy Father, Head of the Church, and Vicar of Christ. With such clever and swaggering deception, it is no wonder popes have been able to "draw away the disciples after them." Pope Francis has become the single most influential false teacher in the world today. His victims are not testing his teachings against the Word of God.

It is not only Roman Catholics who are being woefully deceived by these "twisted things." There are some protestants who are leaving their churches to follow "infallible" popes and bishops. Over the years I have counseled some of them and warned them of the dire consequences for anyone who departs from the faith. Not one of them ever joined the Roman Catholic Church because of biblical doctrine. Instead, they became apostates after reading some of the early church fathers who had also departed from the faith of the apostles. Tragically, these former Protestants chose to submit to the fallible teachings of men rather than the infallible Word of God.

We can all learn a vitally important principle from the Jews who sat under the Apostle Paul's preaching in the synagogue of Berea. "They received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so" (Acts 17:11). The Scriptures are what God gave us to test the veracity of every man's teaching. Since an apostle, who wrote over half of the New Testament, came under the scrutiny of Scripture, the same scrutiny must be given to every pope, bishop, priest, pastor and religious leader. There is no higher authority than our Almighty God and Creator, whose Name and Word are exalted above all things (Psalm 138:2). The Word of God exposes and refutes error and can be used as a sword to slay the lies of the devil and his minions, who disguise themselves as servants of righteousness (2 Cor. 11:15).

Listen to the Symposium on Biblical Inerrancy

Over 700 pastors and church leaders, representing 73 nations, attended the 2015 International Symposium which took place in conjunction with The Shepherds' Conference in March. There was such a buzz in the air as the speakers addressed the importance of biblical inerrancy in global missions. It was especially encouraging to see the speakers' passion and commitment to this essential doctrine. The audio presentations of John MacArthur, Paul Washer, James White, Mike Gendron, Mark Tatlock and the other 4 speakers can be heard here.
Director of the Manhattan Declaration Refers to Us as Ignorant, Angry Rabble Rousers

Two of our subscribers recently wrote to Eric Teetsel, the Executive Director of the Manhattan Declaration (MD) asking for their names be removed as signatories to this unity accord with Catholics. He responded with these slanderous words for those of us who oppose the MD. "I am aware there are a number of ignorant, angry rabble rousers who regularly lie about us to serve their small, twisted propagandas. Some are filled with hate for those who don't comply with their own specific version of Christianity. These fools harm and hinder the Gospel, and are in for a rude awakening upon meeting The Lord. I hope you steer clear of them. Others are simply misinformed, or uninformed. Though theirs is the lesser evil, it is still unacceptable and harmful to the cause of Christ. I hope you will push back, and educate them as to the true nature of the Manhattan Declaration. It's too important to become lost in a lie." Read the whole letter here.

ECT Proponents Continue to Compromise the Gospel of Jesus Christ On Its 20th Anniversary

Some misguided evangelicals are commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the Evangelicals and Catholics Together Accord (ECT) by suggesting it is bearing good fruit in its witness of Jesus Christ and the Gospel. One of the original signers, Timothy George, Dean of Beeson Divinity School, has issued the first of a series of articles to keep ECT moving forward. Another signer, Tom Guarino, professor of theology at Seton Hall University, made some troubling remarks in his article ECT At Twenty. He said Evangelicals and Catholics "have deepened our identity as brothers in Christ, discovering, despite our theological differences, important patterns of similarity and union in our fundamental Christian beliefs." Musing on the future of ECT, he wrote: "Proclaiming the gospel in a society that has forgotten its moral foundations will continue to be a significant task of Evangelicals and Catholics Together." He added, "If contemporary culture is to be renewed, it must be led by Evangelicals and Catholics, with their firm commitment to the truth of the gospel." Guarino urged Catholics and Evangelicals to reflect on the "Reformation, whose five hundredth anniversary is almost upon us...which can deepen our spiritual and theological communion."

Mike's Comment: Evangelical leaders, who cannot discern between truth and error, continue to be seduced by the Vatican's attempt to unite all professing Christians under papal authority. The Vatican knows it must silence all who stand opposed to ecumenical unity, and it has employed an effective strategy to do so. Using social and moral issues as common ground to promote unity, the Vatican believes this ecumenical dialogue will prepare the way for "separated brethren" to return to the "one true church."

Evangelicals, who continue to embrace Roman Catholics as "proclaimers of the true Gospel" and "brothers in Christ," must be confronted and soundly rebuked for their treason against the kingdom of God's beloved Son. By their willful compromise, they either do not know about the exclusivity of God's Gospel, or they are ignorant of the false and fatal gospel of Roman Catholicism.

Letters From Around the World

Mike, Your attacks are unjust and cowardly because you present twisted, incomplete versions of the Catholic Church's position. One sign of a liar is they don't face the truth. Purgatory is in the Jewish Bible and has been believed since the time of the Apostles. Only the Catholic Church has the authority to say what Scripture means. The Reformation churches have followed liars with seared consciences, men who are Satan's ministers. You are following them, too. When the Catholic Church tells us to offer "spiritual sacrifices" to atone for our sins, it does not mean we do not believe in Christ's atonement. His atonement opens the door of heaven so that we can offer God our own sacrifices for our sins, and for any other intentions. Our sacrifices are required for our salvation because faith without works is dead. The grace of his big spiritual sacrifice of atonement gives our tiny sacrifices their power. We teach God's truth in all its reasonableness, justice and truth. You have a twisted, deformed and grossly incomplete partial version of the Gospel. You presume it will save you, but your works of faith are dirty, polluted rags, instead of the gleaming white garments you think they are. Wake up before it's too late. Roger V., Internet

Mike, I watched the live streaming of the Steeling The Mind Conference and wanted to thank you for calling out false prophets. I once was a very deceived Pentecostal and know how deception destroys families. The Holy Spirit is to comfort, counsel, help, intercede and strengthen but not make us roll in the aisles, laughing hysterically as the leaders of my church used to say and do. The tears, emotional pain and heartache that occurs when we do not confront false teachers is not worth the silence! To remain silent in the presence of great deception or evil is just wrong and I am living proof of that as are my daughters. In Christ, Mellany, BC, Canada

Mike, thank you so much for your website. It is beautifully done and with compassion. I too was raised Catholic but failed at being a good Catholic and believed I was going to hell. So I thought why not enjoy myself on the way. My life was a mess, I was the woman at the well. Need I say more? A little 6 year old girl once asked me."Are you saved?" I said, "Nothing can save me." She said, "O yes, Jesus, can!" Wow! After several more years of pain and heartache, I had enough and was ready to hear the truth about Jesus because I had been taught about a different Jesus in the Catholic religion. Oh how I thank God for His grace and mercy. It has been 36 years since I received Him as Lord and Savior. He grows sweeter and sweeter every day.Thank you so much for your ministry. Mickey W., Internet

Hi Mike, I went on board a ship today and met one of the local Catholic priests and was given the privilege of presenting the Gospel message to him. When I asked him "why did Jesus have to die?", he gave me a long winded discourse on how much Mary suffered, and not one word about the sufferings of Christ. It came as no surprise to me, because I had viewed your DVD messages before. This has reinforced my desire to continue presenting the Gospel message to Catholics on board the ships, coming to Gladstone in Queensland. Thanks for all your hard work. Daryl Crabtree, Gladstone, Australia
Pope Announces Extraordinary Jubilee Year

Pope Francis has announced a Jubilee Year that will be focused on mercy. During his unexpected announcement he said that "no one can be excluded from the mercy of God." It will begin on Dec. 8, the Feast of Mary's Immaculate Conception. The tradition of Jubilee, or Holy Year, goes back to the year 1300, when Pope Boniface VIII decreed that it must be celebrated every century. Read more.

Mike's Comments: Time and time again Pope Francis rejects God's Word because of his desire to be loved by all. He proclaims that "no one can be excluded from the mercy of God." Yet from the infallible, inerrant Scriptures we read: "He [God] has mercy on whomever he wills, and He hardens whomever he wills" (Rom. 9:18). Those who die without Christ, will also die without mercy, and can expect a "fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire" (Heb. 10:27). It is indeed tragic for Catholics to be deceived by a man who claims to be infallible in his teachings on faith and morals. According to Scripture, there are no infallible men, only warnings never to put your trust in man (Ps. 146:3).

Ex-Satanist Priest May Soon Be Declared a Saint

Pope Francis, who "does not take a step of his travels in the world without first relying on Mary," will visit Pompeii, a city which lays claim to the curious story of a former Satanist priest, Bartolo Longo. Longo will soon be declared a saint because of his miracle-working Marian devotion. He claimed to have been ordained as a Satanist priest, but later, after struggling with anxiety and depression, he began praying the rosary and converted back to Catholicism. He developed a great devotion to the rosary and worked to restore the faith of the people in Pompeii by promoting Marian devotion, particularly to the rosary. Longo died in Pompeii in 1926, and his last words were: "My only desire is to see Mary who saved me and who will save me from the clutches of Satan." Read more.
Pope Rejects God's Word on Death Penalty

Capital punishment is cruel, inhuman and an offense to the dignity of human life. In today's world, the death penalty is "inadmissible, however serious the crime" that has been committed. That was Pope Francis' unequivocal message to members of the International Commission against the death penalty who met with him in the Vatican. Read more.

Mike's Comment: The pope is once again deliberately rejecting the supreme authority of God's Word which declares: without ambiguity "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image" (Gen. 9:6).

The Supremacy and  Sufficiency of our Lord Jesus Christ

God's Gospel reveals all the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished to save sinners from the power, punishment, and ultimately, the presence of sin: righteousness had to be perfected, divine justice had to be satisfied, blood had to be shed, redemption had to be paid, sins had to be forgiven, reconciliation had to be achieved, death had to be conquered, and salvation had to be secured.
What a glorious Savior we have to proclaim!
