The Truth Sets Captives Free

Those who are deceived may never know it unless they are confronted with the truth. Many go to their grave misled about life's most important issues concerning God and eternity. Since we are eternal beings, we will either spend eternity with our God and Creator in heaven or in the unquenchable fires of hell. Tragically, many people look to unreliable sources for truth in order to prepare for eternity. The only source that will always protect us from the schemes and lies of the master deceiver is divine truth revealed in God's Word. The Scriptures must become our supreme authority in all areas of faith and practice. We must look to Jesus who is the truth (John 14:6), whose Word is truth (John 17:17), and who came to testify to the truth (John 18:37). Why would anyone look anywhere else?

Catholics put their trust in the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church to accurately teach the Bible. This can be a fatal mistake because anyone who relies solely on the subjective teachings of men leave themselves open to deception. The objective truth of God's Word must be the standard by which all the teachings of men are tested for veracity (Acts 17:11). Since the apostle Paul's teaching was tested by Scripture for its truthfulness, it stands to reason we must use the same standard for any religious leader. Unfortunately Catholics do not test the "infallible" teachings of popes through the lens of Scripture. This has resulted in mass deception and religious bondage within the Roman Catholic Church. Only the truth of God's Word will set captives free. Born again Christians, who have been entrusted with the truth, must be good stewards and proclaim it faithfully to those who are perishing.
Glenn Beck Speaks at Largest Christian University

Liberty University invited Mormon Glenn Beck to preach to its students at its compulsory convocation last week, handing out $10 fines to residential students who didn't have a suitable excuse for not attending.

The Beck sermon continues a worrying trend that signals Liberty's rapid retreat from Christian orthodoxy to an unapologetic embrace of false religions and heretics, starting with self-proclaimed messiah Rev. Moon in the 1990s to Benny Hinn and the Mormon church today. Though it still markets itself as a Christian university, its definition as to what passes as Christian is not one shared by most of the churches that send their young people there for an education.

Beck's heretical sermon last week suggests that the toleration of false teachers like Moon and Hinn weren't aberrations. Foisting heresy on students is becoming Liberty's signature. Read more.
Glen Beck did not appreciate all the negative publicity surrounding his invitation to speak at Liberty.  On his radio show, Beck defended the school and criticized those who are intolerant.
Pope: Jesus Journeys With Us in Eucharist

On May 4, Pope Francis meditated on the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist as a source of strength for Christians. He reflected on the gospel account of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus who failed to recognize the risen Jesus Christ until he "broke bread" with them. Pope Francis said that the two became "witnesses of the hope that is Christ! Because they met him, the Risen Traveller." Francis said, "This Jesus, is the Risen Traveller that journeys with us. And Jesus is here today, he is here among us. He is here in his word, is here on the altar, journeying with us." Read more.

Mike's Comment: According to this article, the pope is unaware that the physical appearance of Christ on the earth will not take place until after the tribulation (Mat. 24:27-30; Acts 1:11). At that time He will return with power and great glory to the same place He left [the Mount of Olives] and in the same way He left [not in the form of a Eucharist]. The true Jesus "must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything" (Acts 3:21). He does not return every day at the call of sinful priests to be immolated on Catholic altars. He will return a 2nd time and not in relation to sin (Heb. 9:28). According to the infallible Word of God, it is overtly clear that Catholics are worshipping a false Christ.
Letters From Around the World

Sir, I am a Protestant convert to the Catholic Faith who now teaches the Catechism. You are a disgruntled, poorly catechized ex-Catholic who essentially perpetuates lies about the teachings of the Catholic Church. An apology to Catholics is in order. I found your radio interview very offensive on Crosstalk regarding the canonization of the popes. You should contact Scott Hahn and Father Mitch Pacwa who truly know the Catechism. The only place I find sound and consistent teaching is in the Catholic Church. I do not know why you left the Church, but, I know I am home, and glad to be Catholic. Sincerely, Linda K.

Linda, If you will reread your email you will notice two things: 1) you never mentioned Jesus, the Name above all names, and 2) you wrote about your religion and the Catechism while never mentioning the Bible or a relationship with Jesus. The interview I gave on the canonization of the popes was true and accurate according to Scripture and the Vatican. I said the Vatican looks for two miracles associated with someone before they are named a saint, while the Bible declares someone a saint because of one divine miracle of regeneration. Catholic "saints" must die before they are canonized, while biblical saints must be alive physically and spiritually before they can be called a saint. I pray you will spend time pursuing a relationship with the true Jesus by studying His Word as your supreme authority for faith and practice. Sincerely, Mike
A Biblical Perspective on Father's Day

As the divinely appointed spiritual leaders of families, fathers have the God-given privilege and responsibility for the discipleship and discipline of their children. This Father's Day would be a good time for fathers to reflect on this vitally important question: "What verses are guarding, guiding and governing my view of children and my role as a parent?" Phil George delivered an excellent message at Grace Life Church of Dallas that will encourage fathers in their relationship with their children.
Evangelical Conference Pushes Mysticism

A major Christian church-leadership organization brought thousands of pastors and church workers together at Bent Tree Church in Carrollton, Texas, last month to encourage mysticism. The event called "Catalyst Dallas" raised the eyebrows of some attendees because of its promotion of "contemplative spirituality." One speaker led the audience in a "centering prayer," which detractors argue opens the door to altered states of consciousness and possibly occult influences. Watch a highlight video here.  A common theme throughout the event was centered on the work of Roman Catholic mystics Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating, and Henri Nouwen. Read more.
Pope Rejects Christ's Instructions on Prayer

The Lord Jesus clearly taught His followers how to pray and how not to pray. He said, "do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words" (Mat. 6:7). He also instructed His disciples to pray to their Holy Father in heaven. Pope Francis rejects these instructions and instead chooses to follow the example of a counterfeit "Holy Father." When he was archbishop of Buenos Aires, he went to recite the repetitious prayers to Mary in the Rosary led by Pope John Paul II. Halfway through his prayers, he became distracted by the piety of Pope John Paul and how he was following the path that led to his Heavenly Mother. Ever since then Francis has recited the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary every day. Read article here.
Pope Tours Israel with Rabbi and Sheikh

A rabbi and a sheikh accompanied the pope on his pilgrimage to Jordan, Palestine, and Israel on May 24-26. The two men have been participants in interreligious dialogue with the Pope. The pilgrimage included an encounter between the Bishop of Rome and Patriarch Bartholomew I, the Eastern Orthodox Archbishop of Constantinople. The dialogue among the three faiths that share Jerusalem as a holy city was of crucial importance.  Read more.

Mike's Comment: The pope will once again take the world stage with his cunning push for religious unity. The proposition that the faith of Abraham could be a common foundation for Catholics and Muslims to unite will be foolishly embraced by many Christians who have little or no discernment. Those who think unity under the papacy is a good thing should consider the words of Martin Luther: "Unless with all your hearts you abandon the Papacy, you cannot save your souls. The reign of the Pope is so opposed to the law of Christ and the life of the Christian, that it will be safer to roam the desert and never see the face of man, than abide under the rule of Antichrist. I warn every man to look to his soul's welfare, lest by submitting to the Pope he deny Christ...As long as I live I will proclaim the truth. If the wholesale destruction of souls throughout Christendom cannot be prevented, at least I shall labour to the utmost of my power to rescue my own countrymen from the bottomless pit of perdition."
Pope Overrules Priest on Giving Communion

Pope Francis told a woman "living in sin" with a divorced man that she is free to take Holy Communion, in what appears to be a significant departure from Catholic teaching. The woman wrote to the pope to tell him that she had been refused Communion by her local priest. The Pope has established a reputation for phoning ordinary Catholics out of the blue in response to letters they have sent, called her at her home and told her: "A divorcee who takes communion is not doing anything wrong." In a rebuke to the local priest who refused her the Sacrament, he added: "There are some priests who are more papist than the Pope." Read more.

Our New Gospel Tract
Our churches are filled with false converts who have been evangelized with unbiblical, man-centered methods. There are many professing Christians who have a false hope about where they will spend eternity. This new Gospel tract entitled
True Faith or False Hope - How Can I Be Sure? will encourage Christians to examine themselves to see if they have true saving faith.
