Hostility Towards the Gospel       by Mike Gendron

On the second Sunday of January, nine zealous Roman Catholics came to Grace Life Church of Dallas from all over Texas. They asked to be "evangelized" and to hear what non-Catholics had to say about "their" Bible. The meeting was initiated by members of a group called St. Paul Street Evangelization after they heard that members of Grace Life Church were evangelizing at a Catholic church on Christmas Eve. The reports they heard were true. In fact, my wife Jane and I, along with seven other members of our church, went out to wish Catholics a Merry Christmas and ask them to describe the greatest gift they had ever received. Not one of the 300 Catholics we engaged said their greatest gift was eternal life. So we offered them our Greatest Gift Gospel (which contains only Scripture) and many of them thanked us.
I was amazed that Catholics would come from as far away as Houston, Austin and Tyler to hear the biblical Gospel at an evangelical church. Shortly after the meeting started with the St. Paul Street Evangelization group, we found out their motives were not really to be evangelized. I opened with a 25-minute Gospel presentation stressing the sufficiency of Jesus Christ and the supreme authority of His Word, then welcomed questions from the audience. Along with the nine Catholics, there were about 25 members of Grace Life Church present to answer their objections and defend the biblical Gospel. The Catholics became agitated and hostile because "non-Catholics" were trying to evangelize members of the "One True Church." The meeting lasted for 3 1/2 hours as small groups formed to continue the discussion. While we were successful in delivering the message of the Gospel with clarity and compassion, it was apparent that the seed of God's imperishable Word was not falling on fertile soil.

I was reminded of two biblical truths that were evident during our meeting. First, we were powerless to convince Catholics to believe the Gospel because "the natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned" (1 Cor. 2:14). Second, "the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ" (2 Cor. 4:4). We know that God is the only one who can open the prideful eyes of those who are blinded by religious indoctrination. The blessing of seeing God's glory revealed in Christ is granted only to those who are recipients of God's sovereign grace. Knowing this biblical truth, I am forever indebted to God's grace and for His delivering me out of spiritual darkness into the glorious light of His Son. To Him be all glory and praise!
Catholic Radio Interviews Mike

In God's providence, Mike Gendron was given a wonderful opportunity to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the Guadalupe Radio Network that airs all over Texas and Washington D.C. After receiving a phone call from host Dave Palmer, Mike agreed to a 30-minute interview with the understanding that three Roman Catholics would be invited on the show to rebut what he said. Knowing that lost sheep will follow the Good Shepherd when they hear His Word, Mike considered the opportunity an excellent way to make the Gospel known to thousands of Catholics who would be listening. You can hear the interview here
Vatican Cuts Cost to Become a Saint

The Vatican has said it is cutting the costs of sainthood applications, which can reportedly spiral up to a million dollars. Applications for sainthood can take years and costs include legal fees and travel bills for medical experts from around the world who are often called on to verify supposed medical miracles attributed to would-be saints. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis was cited by the Huffington Post as saying the price of canonization campaigns range between $250,000 and $1 million. Read more.
Letters From Around the World

Hi Mike, I attended the Moody Church for many years and was shocked to hear messages on Moody Radio by host Melinda Schmidt embrace the blasphemous, idolatrous false worship of the Roman Catholic Church. I have noticed that the real champions of the true Gospel today are all ex-Catholics and I am very impressed with your book, Preparing for Eternity. You answer every angle or question that can possibly be raised about Catholicism. If it were up to me I would make your book required reading for every Evangelical Bible college. Anyone who reads it will be solidly grounded in the faith, along with understanding the treacherous teachings of Catholicism. It is really criminal that the Evangelical church has been so silent and deceived on this issue, when millions all around us are perishing in this false religion! Protestant Icon Billy Graham has led the way in this shameful ecumenical confusion for decades. I feel that I have been betrayed because no "Protestant" pastor has ever taught me ANYTHING about the doctrinal errors and real practices of the Catholic Church in over 35 years of being a believer.
God bless you in every way, Linda B, Rockport, TX

Mike, I have a dear Christian friend who went through a divorce with her husband who graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary, but has gone in a downward spiral in his spiritual "walk" from being an evangelical to Anglican to Episcopalian to finally, regrettably, Catholic. He has been trying to convince, coerce and manipulate through fear, his ex-wife to fill out 20 pages of paperwork so he can get an annulment and be able to "take the sacraments". They were married for 40 years and have 2 grown children. Thank you for your time and assistance. C.S., Internet

Dear C.S., Your best counsel to your friend is to tell her ex-husband that she submits to the supreme authority of the Bible in all matters of faith and practice. If her ex-husband or his priest can show her where annulments are given in the Bible, then she will cooperate with them. Perhaps your friend's ex-husband should be more concerned about the issue of apostasy, those who depart from the faith and follow doctrines of demons (1 Tim. 4:1-4). Encourage your friend to stand strong in the faith!

God Enthroned Between Two Cherubim?

The "humble" Pope Francis enthroned himself on a great white throne between two cherubim while celebrating the sacrifice of the Eucharistic Jesus at the basilica of St. Paul. How could he do this if he knows the significance of sitting between two cherubim as revealed in God's Word. "O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth" (Isa. 37:16). Is this a sign of things to come? The apostle Paul warned, "Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God" (2 Thes. 2:3-4).
The Love of God and Mathematics

Many of you know my undergraduate degree was in Mathematics and that it led me to a 3-year stint as a rocket scientist at Cape Kennedy, Florida. The following short video about numbers shows a correlation between attitude and the love of God. Watch here.
Nun Gives Birth to Baby and Names Him Francis

A 31-year old nun who was rushed to hospital complaining of acute stomach pains has given birth to a baby boy and named him Francesco after the Pope. The nun began to feel severe abdominal cramps and gave birth just a few hours later. The discovery of her pregnancy has embarrassed the Catholic Church in Italy, with the local bishop saying that she will have to leave her convent in Rieti, north of Rome, after breaking her vow of chastity. "It would be preferable that she now lead a secular life with her baby, away from religious institutions," said a spokesman for the bishop of Rieti. The nun, who is from El Salvador, had kept her pregnancy a secret and even as she was being taken to hospital in an ambulance denied that she could be pregnant.

"It's not possible, I'm a nun," she told doctors, according to the Italian press. The nun had been working in an old people's home attached to a convent. She was a member of the Little Disciples of Jesus order. Sisters in the convent said they had no idea she was expecting a baby. "We noticed she had put on weight but recently she had kept to herself," one said. Read more.
Swiss Guard Claims Gay Network in Vatican

There is a "network of homosexuals" inside the Vatican that could present a security risk to the Pope, according to a former commander of the Swiss Guard. Numerous former officials have come forward to tell members of the international press that the Vatican, while officially against homosexuality, turns a blind eye to same-sex relations inside the city. Mäder said he is not coming forward out of intolerance, but to avoid the creation of a secret community inside the holy city. Read more.
Luis Palau Says Pope is a Brother in Christ

Argentine native and international evangelist Luis Palau considers Pope Francis a brother in Christ because of his love for the Bible, his reverence for Jesus Christ and because of the way he prays. Palau made these observations in an interview that you can see here.

Mike's Comment: Luis Palau must not know that when anyone preaches a gospel contrary to the one the apostles preached, they are to be accursed (Gal. 1:6-9). The distortion of the pope's gospel includes baptismal regeneration, justification by baptism, justification by faith plus works, indulgences for the remission of sin, purgatory for the purification of sin, law keeping for salvation and participation in the never ending-representation of a Eucharistic Christ on an altar to satisfy divine justice.
Cardinal Says Homosexuality Can Be Cured

Spain's newly appointed cardinal to Rome has insisted that homosexuality can be cured with treatment and likened it to other "bodily deficiencies" such as high blood pressure. The comments came from one of 19 new cardinals appointed by Pope Francis last week. He said: "Homosexuality is a deficient way of manifesting sexuality because [sexuality] has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation. Homosexuality, which can't achieve this purpose, is a failing."  He also said, '"In many cases of homosexuality, it is possible to recover and become normal with the right treatment." The comments provoked an immediate backlash in Spain. Read more.
Pope Begins Process of Sainthood for Eight

Pope Francis approved the "heroic virtue" of eight dead Servants of God, which now allows for their public veneration. The title "Servants of God," is the first stage in the sainthood process. Read more.

Mike's Comment: Once again we see the unbiblical nature of the Roman Catholic religion. God is the only one who appoints saints. Everyone born of the Spirit of God is a saint, and their sainthood is not based on anything they do, but on everything Christ has done! This is why many of the epistles are written to the "saints" at various churches. Paul wrote: "To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints" (Rom. 1:7). He said he was going to Jerusalem to bring aid to the saints (Rom. 15:25). To the church of Ephesus he said, you are "saints and members of the household of God" (Eph. 2:19). Furthermore saints are not to be venerated or worshipped. When Cornelius met Saint Peter he fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up; I too am a man" (Acts 10:25-26). To God alone be all worship and glory!
May God be glorified as we contend earnestly for the faith once delivered! Let us know how we can serve you.

DVD of the Month

This DVD contains two Keynote messages: "Satan's Attacks on the Christian Faith" along with "Are You Sure You Are a Christian?" The devil's insidious attacks against the faith are strategically aimed at six targets: The Supremacy of God's Word, The Sufficiency of God's Son, The Singularity of God's Gospel, The Sovereignty of God's Grace, The Security of God's Children, and the Sanctity of God's Church. The second message examines Paul's exhortation to all of us - "Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith."
The DVD is available at a 45% discount during the month of February.
This book will equip you to be an effective witness to Catholics and it is also a book to give Catholics who are searching for the truth!
It will force them to choose between two diametrically-opposed authorities for their salvation: their Bible or their Catechism.
