News from Evangelist Mike Gendron
January 2013
Greetings in the Name of Jesus,

As we begin our 22nd year of serving our great God and Savior through the ministry of Proclaiming the Gospel, we look forward to many more opportunities to glorify Him and encourage His people to be faithful to His Great Commission. We can't help but stand in awe of what God has done through the ministry He has entrusted to us. He is indeed able to do far more than we could ever ask or think, according to His power at work within us (Eph. 3:20). Apart from the Lord Jesus we can do nothing, but through Him, we can do all things (John 15:5; Phil. 4:13). To Him be all glory throughout all generations, forever and ever!

About 5 years ago we began praying to our Sovereign Lord that He would raise up a young man with a fervent love for the Savior, an abiding passion for the truth and a heartfelt compassion for the lost. In God's perfect timing He answered our prayer with Jason Hauser, a 31-year old evangelist, who graduated from The Master's Seminary in December, and will be moving to Dallas with his wife Whitney and 7-month-old daughter Eden. Jason is a graduate of the University of Florida and served as a missionary in Iraq for one year before entering seminary. He is a former Roman Catholic of 23 years who was saved by God's amazing grace (see testimony here), Jason's gifts, talents and expertise will now be used full time to expand the outreach of the Proclaiming the Gospel Ministry through different forms of media.

Join me in welcoming Jason (jason@ProclaimingTheGospel.org) to the ministry and let us know how we can serve you in the new year.

Mary Quite Contrary
mary
Roman Catholicism continues to pervert the true Mary of Scripture in ways that defy the imagination. The Catholic Mary, as described in the 1994 edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is a satanic diversion that leads Catholics away from a pure devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 11:3). Rome attributes to Mary many of the divine attributes that are unique to the Lord Jesus. The end result is a counterfeit version of Mary whom Catholics venerate and trust as the channel of all grace. Rome says both Jesus and Mary were immaculately conceived, born without sin, lived sinless lives and now intercede as our advocates. Jesus ascended into heaven, the Catholic Mary was bodily assumed into heaven; Jesus is the second Adam, Mary is the second Eve; Jesus is the King of kings, Mary is the Queen of heaven and earth; Jesus is the mediator, Mary is the co-mediatrix and Jesus is the redeemer, Mary is the co-redeemer. Catholics have also declared that it is Mary, not Jesus, that crushes the head of Satan, the serpent. This blasphemous error originated from the mistranslation of Genesis 3:15 from Jerome's Latin Vulgate to the Douay-Rheims English translation. The lie continues today when Catholics celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Catholics are commanded, under the penalty of sin, to accept these myths about Mary as divine truth.

Now according to Carl Anderson, the head of the Knights of Columbus, Mary is the best evangelist. "She is the evangelist par excellence, in part because she enters the world...from the beatific vision, a state of supreme closeness to God," he said Dec. 10 at the Ecclesia in America Conference in Rome. "Her example and continued motherhood of all peoples is a sure path today for the new evangelization." Read more.

Archbishop Gomez of Los Angeles is calling for Catholics to "turn to Mary in a new way." He described Advent (a season historically observed as a time of preparing for the coming of Jesus) as "a season of Mary." He recommended that Catholics try to set aside time every day to think about the Virgin Mary or to look at a picture of her. "Talk to her as her child. Tell her everything that's on your mind." Read more.

Of all the heresies concerning Mary which are embraced by Roman Catholics, her perpetual virginity may be the most bizarre. Historically, Christians have always recognized Mary had four sons and at least two daughters after Jesus was born. This quizzical and outlandish tradition declares Mary's virginal integrity was not violated when she gave birth to Jesus. According to para. 499 of the Catechism, "The deepening of faith in the virginal motherhood led the Church to confess Mary's real and perpetual virginity even in the act of giving birth to the Son of God made man. In fact, Christ's birth "did not diminish his mother's virginal integrity but sanctified it."

In the Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma, Dr. Ludwig Ott states, "In the power of the grace of Redemption merited by Christ, Mary, by her spiritual entering into the sacrifice of her Divine Son for men, made atonement for the sins of men, and merited the application of the redemptive grace of Christ. In this manner she co-operates in the subjective redemption of mankind" (page 213). Here the Catholic Church is claiming that Mary made atonement for the sins of men!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches "Mary did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation" (para. 969). "The Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death" (para. 966). Mary, "by special grace of God, committed no sin of any kind during her whole earthly life" (para. 411). She "was the cause of salvation for herself and the whole human race" (para. 494). Those who seek Mary's protection will be saved for all eternity. These doctrines have robbed God of His glory and have resulted in Catholics showing greater devotion to Mary than to Christ.

It is our prayer that Catholics would spend more time in the inspired Word of God instead of believing the uninspired words of men. When a crowd told Jesus that His mother was looking for Him, He gave this profound response, "For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother" (Mark 3:32-25).
Letters from Around the World
LettersDear Mike, Although we appreciate your love for our Lord, we don't appreciate you sending us anti-Catholic literature as our Catholic faith is strong and the number one important factor in our marriage and life. Please take us off your mailing list. M.and L.

Dear M. and L., The biblical Gospel and the Catholic plan of salvation are diametrically opposed to one another. Perhaps this is why you find my newsletter "anti-Catholic". If I warned people with cancer that the drug they were taking had been diluted and had no power to heal them, would you call me anti-drugs? Please know that we can be wrong about a lot of things in this life and still survive, but if we are wrong about whom we are trusting for eternal life we will pay for that mistake through out all eternity. We have removed you from our list.

I heard you on the radio and wonder if you could explain the differences between the Evangelical Catholic movement and traditional Roman Catholicism. We have a Catholic Priest in our community who my pastor is convinced is saved because he claims salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. What concerns me is that our church's small Christian school (in which my children attend) is going to have this Priest teach.
When I brought my concerns to our pastor, using your article, Roman Catholic: Apostolic or Apostate?, he told me there is a new movement sweeping Catholicism that is Evangelical in which this Priest is a part. Thanks, D.P., Internet

Dear D.P., I am familiar with those who claim to be Evangelical Catholics but it is impossible to be both because Roman Catholicism is the anti-thesis of evangelical Christianity. It perverts the Gospel of grace by adding requirements for salvation such as good works, sacraments and law keeping (CCC, para. 2068, 1129 and 2010). This priest encourages idolatry by the worship of a wafer as the physical presence of the Lord Jesus (CCC, 1378). Jesus warned us, "if anyone says, here is the Christ!...do not believe it" (Mat. 24:23). The Eucharist is a false Christ. The only way a Catholic, or anyone else can be saved is when God extends His sovereign grace to a repenting sinner who trusts the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Those who are sanctified by the truth are called to walk in truth. This is not possible for those who remain in a false religion (John 4:24). The Spirit of Truth will lead the priest out of spiritual darkness if he repents of the false and fatal gospel of Rome and believes the Gospel of God. I pray your pastor will call the priest to repentance, and if he refuses, not allow him to teach at your Christian school.

Dear Mike, What a joy to hear your testimony on our Christian radio station WOOG in Sparta TN. As a former Catholic Nun of 11 yrs. I so related as you shared what God has done in your life and continues to do through His precious Word!! I, like you, have a burden for Catholics and love sharing the gospel of salvation with them. What a joy to realize that the tremendous void I had as a small child could only be filled by my Savior, Jesus Christ. Oh, I had the head knowledge, but what a change when my spiritual eyes were opened and the Holy Spirit made His residence within me. May we earnestly seek souls for Christ until He takes us home! K.M. Sparta, TN
Catholics Seek Gift of Contemplative Prayer
According to Catholic Online "contemplative prayer is an immense gift from the Holy Spirit." Catholics appear to be jumping on the emerging church bandwagon as this mystical type of prayer is growing in popularity. Contemplative prayer begins with "centering prayer," a meditative practice where the practitioner focuses on a word and repeats that word over and over for the duration of the exercise. The purpose is to clear one's mind so that God's voice may be more easily heard. After the centering prayer, the practitioner is to sit still, listen for direct guidance from God, and feel His presence. It is no different than the subjective mysticism used in Eastern religions and New Age cults. Prayer and meditation in Non-Christian religions place a lot of importance on breath.  Catholic Online states "We should not be reluctant in learning methods from other religious traditions if they can help us receive more fully the gift of contemplative prayer as Christians." What Must I Do to Be Saved?
When did the Roman Catholic religion begin? Is the Roman Catholic Church the one true church founded on Peter the rock? Mike Gendron answers these questions in a message entitled,   The Development of Roman Catholicism. He follows that message with a vivid contrast between two different answers to the question, What Must I Do to Be Saved? Roman Catholicism's answer is diametrically opposed to the answer found in the inspired Word of God. Share these messages with your Catholic loved ones.
Celebrating the Incarnation of God
Last month many Christians celebrated the incarnation of God, the birth of Immanuel, which was a long awaited fulfillment of Scripture: "All this happened to fulfill what had been declared by the Lord through the prophet, who said, 'Look, the virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will give him the name Immanuel' - which is translated, 'God with us'" (Mat. 1:22-23). Jesse Barrington, pastor of Grace Life Church of Dallas, gave a powerful message exhorting us to celebrate Immanuel every day with a sense of awe and wonderment!
Microchip-Tracking Improves Vatican's Security
Vatican clergy and employees will be issued with an identity card complete with a microchip-tracking device in sweeping new security measures designed to prevent a repeat of the Vatileaks scandal. Slovenian priest, Mitja Leskovar, an anti-espionage expert nicknamed 'Monsignor 007', is in charge of implementing the new security procedures. He grew up in the former Yugoslavia under Communism, and will now be responsible for the transmission of confidential documents between the Vatican and its papal nuncios or diplomats Read more..
