News from Evangelist Mike Gendron
November 2012
Greetings in the Name of Jesus,

It has now been 495 years since Martin Luther sparked the Reformation by nailing 95 Theses against the selling of God's forgiveness on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. As I was preparing a message on the life of Martin Luther, my studies led me to another ungodly tradition of the Roman church which originated in paganism - the veneration of relics, bone fragments and dead bodies. Among Catholicism's most highly venerated relics have been pieces of the Cross of Jesus Christ. There are so many of these pieces scattered throughout the world that, if gathered together, they could be used to build a large ship. The Catholic Encyclopedia admits that the validity of many relics are "doubtful", but fails to admit that all of them are fakes. Based upon the church's dubious assertion of artifact credibility:  "many of the more ancient relics duly exhibited for veneration in the great sanctuaries of Christendom or even at Rome itself must now be pronounced to be either certainly spurious or open to grave suspicion."

Venerating relics has not been an option for Catholics. The Council of Trent commanded the veneration of dead bodies and condemned those who did not believe in the authenticity of artifacts designated as relics by the Catholic Church. "The holy bodies of holy martyrs... are to be venerated by the faithful, for through these bodies many benefits are bestowed by God on men." Since it was believed that "many benefits" come through the bones of dead men, the sale of bodies and bones became big business for the Church of Rome! According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, when Pope Boniface IV converted the Pantheon into a church in the 7th century, "twenty-eight cartloads of sacred bones were said to have been removed from the Catacombs and placed in a basin beneath the high altar."

As I learned more about these abominable traditions of Rome, I was moved to a deeper compassion for those who have been deceived by religious deception. Only the truth of God's Word can set them free (John 8:31-32). Those who know Scripture know that relics have no part in true worship, for "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24).
New DVD for Those Who Are Perishing
One of the most frequent requests we have received over the last 10 years has been for an evangelistic DVD to share with loved ones who have never been born-again. It is now available and comes with two PowerPoint messages entitled: Where Will You Spend Eternity? and Why Should Anyone Believe the Bible?. Most people don't know where they will spend eternity, yet the Bible tells us that we can know for sure. Since there is only one way to heaven and many ways to hell, there is nothing more important in this life than knowing the truth about eternity. As we approach the season of exchanging gifts, the message on this DVD may be one of the greatest gifts anyone could ever receive. Quantity discounts are available. Order here.
Rome Conference Explores Cult of Mary
mary
The objective of the two-day event, entitled "Mary, Sign of Faith (and Only Hope)," was to explore the Cult of Mary in order to identify her role in leading Christians towards greater devotion to Christ. The pope said, "It is important to look at Mary as a model, as a sign of faith. We're on our way to God, we don't see the beatific vision yet, so we need symbols, we need signs to take us on the road. And it's very important that we turn to Mary because as Louis de Montfort, the great doctor of the Church once said... it's through Mary that Jesus will reign in the world. She had a role to play at the beginning when He first came, and she has a role to play now as we approach the end times."

The conference organizer said, "any attempt at evangelization has to start with Mary because Mary was the first evangelizer." Mary's role as evangelist extends beyond the Gospels and to foreign continents. Our Lady of Guadalupe, for instance, was "the catalyst that helped to convert 9 million Aztecs over the course of 15 years, whereas before her apparition in Mexico City they had perhaps a few hundred, or a few thousand converts." He said, "There are promising signs that we can renew our faith in Jesus and get closer to Him by knowing Mary. I like to say: 'No Mary, no Jesus; know Mary, know Jesus.'" Read more.
Letters from Around the World
Letters
You think so highly of yourself and you think you know the right interpretation of the Bible. I would love to see your degrees and where you get your knowledge. It is not from the Bible because you use it to twist the words to support your theology. Why are you spending your life fighting the Church that Jesus established under St. Peter, the first Pope. Your heresy has been around for many years. You think you are God and you can do whatever you want and lead thousands of people down your path. I have been born again for 36 years and know the Bible better than you do. I think Satan is joyful through all of this. You are his kind of man. He wants to destroy the Catholic Church. He knows how to lie and has lied to you for many years. The Catholic Church has a billion people and many of them are good people. I hope God forgives you for your arrogance and pride. People who are former Catholics might follow you but then they were never Catholic in the first place. I will pray for you when I pray for the enemies of Jesus Christ. God bless, Darwin, Internet

This is one of many letters we receive each month that show how religious pride blinds people from the light of the Gospel and the glory of our all-sufficient Savior. All we can do is point them to Christ and His Word and pray for the veil of blindness to be removed (2 Cor. 3:16).

I recently saw you on VCY America. You woke me up from my apathy! I never understood how important it is to be a witness for Christ until I heard you on radio. I live in a senior citizen apartment building that is full of Roman Catholics with a Catholic church across the street. I would like to order your Roman Catholicism: Scripture vs. Tradition tracts to share with others. S.A. Hartford, WI

When you were at Calvary Bible in Michigan I got your CD messages and gave them to friends who had Catholic friends who gave them to a lady who was just saved out of the Catholic Church. She heard your messages and was greatly inspired and reported back that "he was on the money on every issue." She then passed them on to a Christian friend who has a daughter engaged to marry a catholic man. We are waiting to hear the response. Just wanted to let you know that what you are doing is touching lives. Terry, Internet
Mormonism No Longer A Cult?
Shortly after Billy Graham and Mitt Romney met for prayer at Graham's Montreat, North Carolina, home, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association scrubbed prior references to Mormonism as a cult from its website. The association said, "we do not wish to participate in a theological debate about something that has become politicized during this campaign." In a section of the website called Billy Graham's My Answer there had been the question "What is a cult?" Answer: "A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. Some of these groups are Jehovah's Witnesess, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spritualists and others." This page has now been removed from the site. Read more.
Remembering the Reformation

William Tyndale was a theologian and scholar, who spoke eight languages fluently. Once in the face of opposition from a prominent clergyman, he said, "I defy the Pope and all his laws. If God spare my life, I will cause a boy that drives the plow to know more of the Scriptures than thou dost."  He was the first man to take advantage of Gutenberg's invention to print the New Testament in the English language. Tyndale's Bible translation, including commentaries, was banned and he was condemned as a heretic. King Henry VIII ordered him to be burnt at the stake in 1536. His dying words were, "Lord open the King of England's eyes." His prayers were answered just three years later when King Henry VIII published the English "Great Bible." Read more.
Baptist Leader Addresses Synod in Vatican
Fraternal Delegates from several Christian denominations addressed the Synod of Catholic Bishops on the New Evangelization at the Vatican October 17. Among the delegates who spoke was Dr. Timothy George who represented the Baptist World Alliance. Dr. George, who also serves as Dean of the Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, underlined the biblical imperative for Christian unity, stating that ecumenism is "always in the service of evangelization." Obama - Religious Pioneer or Apostate?
According to CNN writer John Blake, President Obama is "a religious pioneer" who, in the opinion of some scholars and pastors, is "also expanding the definition of who can be a Christian by challenging the religious right's domination of the national stage." To be candid, Obama should be viewed as a religious apostate more than a religious pioneer. He has shown an extraordinary disregard for society's most innocent and vulnerable members (babies in the womb), he has misused the Bible to defend the radical redefinition of marriage and he has trashed religious freedoms with his health care mandate. Read more.
Crucifix Crushes Devotees Leg
A 45-year-old pizza worker believed his devotion to a crucifix was responsible for his wife being cured of cancer. Well, the crucifix fell on him, crushing one of his legs. David Jimenez sees tragic irony in losing his leg to a crucifix he had prayed to. The crucifix had been outside the Church of St. Patrick in Newburgh, NY. For months, he would stop and pray at the crucifix, that his wife would be cured of ovarian cancer. When she was healed, he attributed the cure to his devotion to that crucifix.

Because of that, Jimenez said, he got permission to clean the crucifix, which was long-neglected. But in doing so, the statue dislodged and toppled onto him. The attorney for Jimenez, who would not allow his client to speak, said the 600-pound statue was supported by a single screw in the base. Jimenez, who believes in the power of prayer, is now praying for a judgment, not from a higher authority, but from a civil court. Vatican Council II Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Dr. Jimmy DeYoung interviewed Mike Gendron on his Prophecy Today radio program to discuss the 50th Anniversary of Vatican Council II. Mike informed the radio audience that Vatican II made no changes in the doctrinal structure of the Church, however one new doctrine was added which asserts that "Mary is the Mother of the Church." The council also strengthened its position on indulgences by teaching and commanding that "the usage of indulgences should be kept in the church and it condemns with anathema those who say that indulgences are useless or that the church does not have the power to grant them." (Sacred Liturgy)

Mike also alerted listeners of the hidden agenda in the Council's Decree on Ecumenism has a hidden agenda. Its purpose is not union with other faiths, but absorption of all faiths. The Vatican will not bend on its dogmatic doctrines. Other faiths must compromise their positions to have unity with Rome. This new strategy of pseudo-ecumenism makes Rome better situated to eliminate any and all opposition as it seeks to accomplish its goal of world dominance.

In related news, the World Council of Churches, with 349 churches seeking unity and a common witness for Christ, helped celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the second Vatican Council. The General Secretary said, "We remember the Second Vatican Council as an extraordinary moment of evangelical renewal of the Catholic Church. We expressed our gratitude and joy that through the Decree on Ecumenism the Catholic Church gave new impetus to the search for visible unity. The decree gave hope and inspiration to Christians around the world." Read more.
