Council Structure and Council Member Expectations:

The Chapter Council (the board) is comprised of students, academics and practitioners. The board meets bi-monthly for an hour and a half and participation is available by teleconference.  Chapter Council members are expected to attend the bi-monthly meetings to plan and execute chapter events,  as well as assist with chapter communication and marketing.

It typically takes a year or two of Chapter Council participation before a new member may be ready to move into a leadership role. The current Chapter Council is consistently working on growing members to move into leadership positions. For example, typically the Vice Presidents are actively mentoring a protégé to eventually move into their position. Leadership offers a great opportunity to learn about succession planning and to mentor and be mentored.

The term is two years, starting July 1, 2016.
Chapter Leadership Roles:

President - Responsible for successfully implementing the chapter's strategic plan by setting goals for the upcoming term and ensuring that they are aligned with the strategic plan. Coordinate with other chapter council members, donors, and event speakers to ensure successful chapter events.  Sets the board meeting agenda and runs  the bi-monthly meetings. Implement and monitor succession planning in each officer position to maintain the vitality of the organization with an emphasis on mentoring the president elect. Represent the chapter at conference at appropriate ASPA national events and meetings, including the ASPA annual conference. Recruit and supervise and provide direction for ASPA student intern.

VP of Marketing/Communications - Responsible for disseminating information about the Chapter's activities on a regular basis to engage existing members, attract new members and "friends of ASPA".  Maintain the Chapter website content, chapter marketing and communication materials such as electronic newsletter, membership brochure, and other member announcements. Actively participate in the bimonthly board meetings to provide input and assistance for event coordination.

VP Programs/Events - Responsible for planning and execution of chapter hosted events throughout the year, including student-professional events and the annual awards luncheon.  Maintain close communications with partner universities, professional organizations, local practitioners, academics, and students to develop program offerings.  Form event committees among chapter council members to install successful events.  Typical annual event offerings include 3 student/professional dinners and 4 university/ASPA Chapter programs, in addition to the annual awards luncheon.

VP of Finance - Responsible for maintaining the chapter's financial records and making annual financial reports to the ASPA National Office.  Represent the chapter on other finance related matters.

President Elect - Assume presidential responsibilities in President's absence. Serve one year as a protege to the President during the second year of serving President's term.

Secretary - Responsible for updating the Chapter Constitution, note taking during the chapter's bi-monthly board meetings and disseminating minutes, updating electronic member database as needed, checking national member database monthly for new members and sending out new member welcome letters on President's behalf.
