In a small town in Virginia, this was the first large-scale project for a local integrator who called upon the experts at PMI to not just engineer the space, but to roll out white-glove concierge service for his discerning client. The integrator realized that bringing in additional expertise and big-picture thinking enabled him to build increased revenue into the budget by getting the client excited about additional value and functionality. This is a jewel box dedicated theater in an ultra-modern home with sleek d�cor and lighting, and comfortable seating. The objective was to give a small room the feeling of a big-sound, big-picture screening room, with high-quality styling and equipment. The clients wanted an elegant look to match the luxurious aesthetic of rest of their modern home and architectural detail. NASA Meets Rave

In the trendy South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, this modern home with industrial flair feels cool and spacious, not what you'd expect from condensed city-living. Even though it's a residence, it has a very organized and mechanical structure, perfect in every way. The homeowners love to entertain and wanted to create a space that would include a screening room, live performance space, an art gallery and workshop, recording studio, and dance club. As a follow up to our newsletter with announcements of our CEDIA awards, we have received communications requesting more information on the team work for the Cinema Paradiso project that won Best Overall Home Theater and Technical Excellence/Gold (over $1M). Here is the sequence of work: - First off, Theo Kalomirakis of TK Theaters started with yet another outstanding design concept and plans for the room's architecture.
- Next, PMI did the initial work to integrate proper audio and video functions to the design, engineer a sound isolation shell, and design the noise control functions necessary for a room of this magnitude.
- Mark Ontiveros and Audio Images were then brought in to provide the audio, video, and control system integration and equipment.
- SH Acoustics, led by Steve Haas, then took the project forward to complete the interior acoustic systems, oversee the construction and fabrication of the theater, as well as to be an integral part of the final acoustic and audio calibration.
- Finally, SH Acoustics integrated the Concertino acoustic enhancement system with all of the other elements of the theater to allow the client to transform his space into a virtual concert hall at will.

PMI Sweeps CEDIA Awards 2013!
Each year, CEDIA recognizes the best of the best in the residential electronic systems industry. This year, we're excited to be part of the winning teams that won FIVE top awards for Technical Excellence in the Home Theater category of the 2013 CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles� Awards - more than any other company in this category. PMI and integrator Audio Images assembled and led the teams that built some of the most extraordinary home theaters in the country!
CINEMA PARADISO
Winning Best Overall Home Theater and a Gold Technical Design award (in the $1M & up category) is an opulent theater that is part of a drop-dead gorgeous entertainment wing of an extravagant estate in Irvine, California. In addition to a state-of-the-art home theater, the entertainment wing includes a pizzeria, nightclub, and vintage arcade. A monumental project like this needed an equally monumental team which included TK Theaters and SH Acoustics. Click to read the full story. WHIMSICAL SHOWCASE CINEMA
Winning a Gold Technical Design award (in the $251-350k category) is a refined Orange County, California home with a dedicated home cinema featuring full sound isolation, carefully engineered AV, acoustics, ventilation and noise control, along with decor that matches the modern-whimsical interior in the rest of the artistically-conceived house. The homeowner is a fan of high-quality products but couldn't tolerate any level of product failure or control system uncertainties, so the project had to yield a dedicated home cinema room with premium quality sound and picture, proper sound privacy, carefully crafted esthetic standards, and ease of use. BEACHFRONT BASEMENT THEATER A Gold Technical Design award (in the $151-250k category) was bestowed upon a project where the main objectives were to create a 10-seat home cinema with outstanding picture and sound, privacy from the main living spaces of the residence, and a design style that flowed naturally into the rest of the home. The original architectural plan for this room could have caused a complete failure from a sound, picture and background noise point of view. When PMI and Audio Images educated the client and architect on the benefits of proper engineering, they readily accepted a reconstruction plan. As a result, this is now a world-class home cinema. VERSATILE CINEMA WITH FULL SOUND ISOLATION Rounding out our winning streak was a Silver Technical Design award (in the $151-250k category) for a high-quality home theater in a waterfront property in Newport Beach, California. This client wanted a dedicated theater that could open up into the rest of the house for a variety of entertaining options. We created full sound isolation while using a custom sliding door to open up the room to the rest of the house, achieving the client's desire for a versatile and comfy space.
