Principal Post

It has been a busy first full week of school and we would like to thank everyone for making it successful.  Explorer had a parent meeting on Tuesday, Emily Dickinson Preschool held their Meet and Greet on Wednesday then started on Thursday, and we had a fabulous turn out for our Third through Fifth Grade Curriculum Night Thursday evening!  What a wonderful learning community we have! We are excited to see the continued participation this next week. This week we will have the Watch D.O.G.S Information night on Wednesday and the Kindergarten through Second Grade Curriculum Night on Thursday.  Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative program used by schools across the country that has brought positive impacts by the involvement of fathers and father-figures in the school, particularly in the classroom.  This is the third year we have had this program at Emily Dickinson and Explorer and we have been excited by its growth and success!  This Wednesday's Kickoff event is divided into two sections.  Our veteran D.O.G.S are invited to come between 5 and 6 PM to schedule days on the calendar and ensure volunteer forms are up to date.  Rookie D.O.G.S., people new or interested in the program, are invited to come between 6:30 and 7:30 to get more information on the program, as well as have some pizza.  We look forward to seeing all our D.O.G.S next week and in our buildings all year long!!  MSP results will be sent home shortly.  We are anxiously awaiting our scores and will pass on the information as soon as we can! We are so excited and thankful for the parent involvement!

Learn Spanish
Classes Mondays and Thursdays, 8am, Boys and Girls Portable
Join us before school for a fiesta-filled learning experience with fun, music, songs, games, plays, and rhymes all designed to immerse your child in the wonderful language of Spanish. This before-school, twice a week, program is available to all elementary-aged students for only $35 a month with a one-time liability insurance fee of $10 per student.

Classes begin on Monday, September 8, and are held every Monday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the Boys and Girls Club Portable Orange Room on Dickinson campus. Classes continue through the month of May. Each month focuses on a different topic such as food, weather, clothes, animals and verbs.

There are two presentations for family and friends: one in December and one in May.  Your child may begin or start at any time during the year; however, the best benefit comes from building on the language month by month. If you are interested in registering your student for this program, please e-mail Marilyn Springgay at [email protected].
