ESI's Raleigh, North Carolina Office

ESI has an office in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kevin W. Markham is Operations Manager for ESI's Raleigh office. He provides support for the Ecology, Archaeology, and Site Assessment and Remediation Divisions operating from the Raleigh Office.  Mr. Markham also serves as Director for the Ecology Division for ESI's North Carolina offices and in this role provides technical oversight and quality assurance/quality control on natural resource projects.  Mr. Markham has more than 20 years experience providing natural resource assessments, protected species surveys, mitigation planning, and resource agency coordination.

ESI's Matt Smith has been asked to participate in a new Task Force with the City of Boiling Springs Lakes to reach out to teens in the community.

"I think you would be exceptionally valuable with your knowledge of the local landscape and activities that would get teens active in our community,." said Mary Green, Boiling Spring Lakes Parks & Recreation.

Boiling Springs Lakes is the home of the Boiling Spring Lakes Preserve, which boasts 6,942 acres in Brunswick County, North Carolina.

"Located within the incorporated limits of the town that is its namesake, the Boiling Spring Lakes Preserve encompasses half of the incorporated area of the town. The establishment of the Boiling Spring Lakes Preserve is the result of a collaborative partnership between the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services' Plant Conservation Program, The Nature Conservancy, the City of Boiling Spring Lakes and the North Carolina Natural Heritage Program. The land is owned by the Plant Conservation Program and is managed by The Nature Conservancy." Matt Smith is the office manager and lead scientist in the Wilmington office with primary responsibilities over the operations in that office. He is responsible for the management of projects throughout Southeastern North Carolina In addition to project management, Mr. Smith is also responsible for conducting wetland delineations, CAMA delineations, permit evaluations, preparing permit applications, mitigation planning and oversight, coordinating with the federal and state regulatory agencies, environmental assessment studies, and threatened & endangered species surveys.

ESI: Fire Management and Prescribed Burning

ESI has performed prescribed burns for clients in Florida and Georgia to accomplish a variety of objectives, including reducing the risk of wildfire, clearing land prior to site preparation or conversion, or restoring native habitats. In addition to planning and implementing prescribed burns, ESI has conducted wildfire risk assessments and prepared risk-mitigation plans as potentially required by local, state, and federal agencies.
