Improvements Made:
  • Implemented a comprehensive and multi-faceted worksite wellness program
  • Share the RSBP Smart Tips newsletter with staff and use Facebook to share sustainability related information with stakeholders
  • Trained staff to use new power strips to turn off equipment
  • Created a proposal for a new Director of Sustainability position to spread sustainable practices throughout the Hilton chain
  • Joined the 'Way to Go Club' with the City of Durango to encourage alternative commuting methods among employees
  • Upgraded electrical meters with LPEA to enable more detailed profiling of their electrical load.  
  • Currently in the process of upgrading rooftop lighting from T-12s to LED strip lights, which will save $12,135 and reduce 86 metric tons of greenhouse gases each year. This lighting upgrade has a return on investment of 1.83 years.

In addition to the above activities, the DoubleTree has also previously taken many actions to be Resource Smart, such as:
  • Upgrading indoor lighting from T-12s to T-8s and guest room lighting to CFLs, completing regularly scheduled building maintenance, installing occupancy sensors in guest rooms, insulating boiler water pipes, and installing programmable thermostats that guests have limited control over  
  • Completing the arduous process to become Green Seal Silver Certified (encompasses practices related to waste, energy, water, hazardous substances, and purchasing policies)
  • Creating a green business mission statement, sustainability strategy and environmentally preferable purchasing policy
  • Creating a staff orientation and training program around sustainability practices
  • And much more!

Ramping Up

Business must have gone through the worksite wellness, sustainability, and energy assessments, as well as have implemented one recommended action from their report.

 

Making a Difference

Business must have achieved the 'Ramping Up' status, and have implemented three recommendations, one in each area of Energy Efficiency, Worksite Wellness, and Sustainability.

 

Going Beyond

The highest level of recognition in the program, businesses that have made nine improvements, three in each area of Energy Efficiency, Worksite Wellness, and Sustainability, are certified as 'Going Beyond'.
