Level of Certification: Ramping Up
Improvements Made:
Upgraded lighting from 400 watt metal halide fixtures to T-5 high bay fluorescent fixtures, resulting in annual savings of 19,241 kilowatt hours, $2,155 and 33,806 pounds greenhouse gas emissions. After rebates, this upgrade has a return on investment of one year.
Other:
In addition to upgrading their lighting through the RSBP, Habitat has also previously taken many actions to be Resource Smart, such as constructing ENERGY STAR certified homes through their Home Ownership Program, offering scrap metal and electronics recycling to the community, providing an outlet for the reuse and re-purposing of goods through the ReStore, and coordinating the donation truck pickup schedule to reduce number of trips, among other activities.
Visit them online at www.habitatlaplata.org or stop by the ReStore at 120 Girard St. for some new and used building materials, appliances and gently used furniture, and to check out their new lighting!
