Level of Certification: Ramping Up

Improvements Made: Replaced 116 CFL light bulbs with LEDs, resulting in annual savings of $1,748, 15,465 kWh and 27,171 pounds of greenhouse gases. After rebates, this investment has an ROI of 0.6 years.

Other: In addition to upgrading their lighting through the RSBP, Maria's Bookshop has also previously taken many actions to be Resource Smart, such as installing a bike rack for customers in the parking space outside the store, providing incentives to employees that choose not to drive, purchasing 100% green power, posting their green business practices on their website, building a shed to store cardboard boxes for people to reuse, recycling and composting, purchasing recycled content paper products, making note paper from reused copy paper sheets, using green cleaning products, selling locally made gift items and books written by local authors, devoting significant shelf space to "green" and community-health themed publications, and having a "just say yes" policy for community requests, among other activities.

Visit them online or stop by the shop at 960 Main Ave to buy a book and to check out their new lighting!
