Resource Smart Business Program: Work Smarter, Not Harder
Monthly Smart Tips
The Resource Smart Business Program (RSBP) is pleased to provide your workplace with simple and easy to implement smart tips. Use these as a resource for quick information to help you stay resource savvy at work, at home, or anywhere in between.

Energy Efficiency

Give it a Rest

One simple way to make a direct impact on energy use is to remember to turn off your computer monitor when your computer is not in use. The same goes for your printer and fax machine; only power them on when you need them. Not only is this good for the planet, but turning off appliances can save $150 per year.

Worksite Wellness

Know Yourself

Avoid trying to make too many changes at once that may cause you to throw the 'baby out with the bathwater'. Some individuals thrive by a 'make it or break it' lifestyle change approach, and change everything at once. Others are more successful at making one or two changes at a time until they are integrated as habits before changing anything else.  For example, ride your bike to work one week and cut back on caffeine the next. Know what's right and most successful for you!

Overall Sustainability

Don't Take it for Granted

Water has long been taken for granted as a resource in most facilities. One of the easiest and least-intrusive ways to reduce water use is to replace existing fixtures and appliances with those that conserve water. Water-conserving toilets and urinals and low-flow showerheads and faucets can have a significant impact on facility water use. Low-flow faucets alone can save about 18,000 gallons of water from your sink annually, and they generally cost less than $5!
