Ramping Up

Business must have gone through the worksite wellness, sustainability, and energy assessments, as well as have implemented one recommended action from their report.

 

Making a Difference

Business must have achieved the 'Ramping Up' status, and have implemented three recommendations, one in each area of Energy Efficiency, Worksite Wellness, and Sustainability.

 

Going Beyond

The highest level of recognition in the program, businesses that have made nine improvements, three in each area of Energy Efficiency, Worksite Wellness, and Sustainability, are certified as 'Going Beyond'.

Level of Certification: Ramping Up

Improvements Made: Upgraded lighting to LEDs, with an estimated annual savings of  $305 and 3,213 kWh. This will result in 5,645 pounds of greenhouse gases prevented each year! For the Birds also changed the plumbing in the bathroom to eliminate the use of a space heater and finalized their mission and vision statements to incorporate sustainability principles: "The mission is to connect people with nature. Our vision for doing that stands on three principles - being a shop with items that remind people of the delight and refreshment found in nature, being a shop that serves as a voice for nature education non-profits and being a shop that is kind to nature in return to her provision for us."

Other: In addition to upgrading their lighting, plumbing and mission statement through the RSBP, For the Birds has also previously taken many other actions to be Resource Smart, such as recycling, using xeriscape landscaping, sourcing local and fair trade products, and hosting nature education events, among other activities.
