The Jeffersontown High School Alumni Association is proud to introduce its Hall of Valor, created for the service men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty without the opportunity for distinction in a lengthier life. Jon Hile, class of 1991, introduced our first recipient,

Robert Kavich 1969 yearbook picCorporal Robert Dale Kavich, class of 1970.

Bobby wanted nothing more than to serve in the US military. He tried to get into one of the fine military academies, but was unsuccessful, so he enlisted in the army right away only a few weeks after graduation.

He began his tour in Vietnam, August 1st, 1970, with Troop E, 17th Calvary, 173rd Airborne Brigade of the US Army.

At age 18, Bobby was putting his life on the line as a soldier in Southeast Asia. One day, as his troop was picked up, he was riding in the back of a vehicle when they drove over a Corporal Robert Dale Kavich, class of 1970land mine.  With burns over most of his body, he died in the hospital, ending his life, much too soon in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam, on November 22, 1970.

Drawing to be held on Thanksgiving weekend!

 What a great Christmas present!!!!!

Two years ago, Paul Gambert, class of 1982, led our alumni association in its quest for a much-needed update to the football field entrance.  In place of the original sagging signs and broken chain link fences, we now have impressive brick columns (thanks to Buddie Jaha, class of 1973) displaying bronze plaques in honor of Jim Hughes and William T. Reynolds.

This year those columns have been crowned with the Jeffersontown High School sign designed and crafted by JHS students.

placing new sign 1306 sm

Upper left picture is of the old football field sign from the 1978 yearbook before it was destroyed by the ice storm a few years ago.  The balance of the pictures are of the new sign built by JHS students being moved & hoisted into its place of glory on top of the new football field entrance.

Fresh Crowned Entrance

The Coach Jim Hughes Football Complex & W.T. Reynolds football field

entrance was crowned with its new banner

Most of the funding for this project came from the sale of engraved bricks. Over two hundred names have been placed on the walkway leading into the football field. Some were individual names, some were for families, and others were bought in memory of fellow graduates.  Since so many graduates have expressed interest in adding their names to walkway, we have opened Phase III.
