The Disciplines of Abstinence remove the clutter from our lives and make room for the Disciplines of Engagement which fills our lives with renewed focus. As we intentionally discipline ourselves to engage Christ, his power strengthens us. To abstain and not engage is like exhaling and then not taking a breath.
