Tree Pick-Up
Friday, Dec. 5, 10 AM-6 PM and Saturday, Dec. 6, 9 AM-Noon
Bayside Christian Church

Thank you to those who ordered trees from us and helped us reach our goal of 500 new trees planted in 2014!

Your trees will be available for pick-up on Friday, Dec. 5th, from 10 AM-6 PM and Saturday, Dec. 6th, from 9 AM- Noon.  Bayside Christian Church is hosting our tree pick-up and they are located at 2224 Greenwell Road off of Shore Drive.

These trees need to get into the ground as quickly as possible, so any trees not picked up by noon on Saturday will be available for adoption on a first come, first served basis thereafter.

If you have any questions, please contact Dana or Trista at 757-962-5398 or Dana@LRNow.org and Trista@LRNow.org.

Bird Walk at Pleasure House Point
Saturday, November 22, 8 AM

Enjoy the early morning beauty of Pleasure House Point when the birds are the most active.

We will meet on Marlin Bay Drive at 8:00 AM and enjoy a pleasant walk with a birding expert from the Audubon Society.  These programs are free but we prefer that you preregister with Dana@LRNow.org or 757-962-5398.

Volunteer Appreciation Reception
Sunday, December 6, 3-6 PM, Brock Environmental Center

Our wonderful volunteers make everything possible at LRNow!  Whether you helped to build an oyster castle, planted a
w
etland, cleaned up trash in the river, spread the word at an event, helped us with office work, grew oysters, served on a committee, or any of the hundreds of ways that volunteers contribute to our work at LRNow, we want to thank you!

Please join us for a sunset reception at the new Brock Environmental Center on December 6th from 3-6 PM.

There will be refreshments and tours of our new home in the Brock Environmental Center as well as the opportunity to meet other LRNow volunteers and enjoy the beauty of Pleasure House Point.

To RSVP, please contact Dana at 757-962-5398 or  Dana@LRNow.org.

Every five years, Virginia Beach takes a new look at its long-term plan for development.  It's called the Comprehensive Plan, It's Our Future, and the City would like your input.  The City Council, in conjunction with the Planning Commission, will host open houses across the city to discuss issues like land use, transportation, preserving neighborhoods, the environment, economic development, and parks and open space.
You are invited to the following public open houses, held from 7-9 PM.

Thursday, Nov. 13
John B. Dey Elementary School
1900 N. Great Neck Road

You can view the current Comp Plan online at    www.vbgov.com/CompPlan

November
Native Plant of the Month:
Callicarpa americana or
American Beautyberry

This is one of our favorites and will attract birds to your yard.  I grows to 4-6 feet and spreads to 4-6 feet.  Lilac colored flowers will appear in the summer and the beautiful magenta berries will stay all winter.  It is a fast grower and can be pruned aggressively prior to new spring growth.  It is a good understory shrub.

To order a   plant, call, 962-5398, or email  Dana@LRNow.org
Cost is $  22.
