City Council Candidates Forum

Vote Button On Tuesday, November 4, we will be electing seven new members to our City Council.  Come to our Forum at the Central library on Monday, October 20th to hear all the candidates' positions of issues of interest to you.

Bird Walks at Pleasure House Point

Enjoy the early morning beauty of Pleasure House Point when the birds are the most active.
We will meet on Marlin Bay Drive at 7:30 AM and enjoy a pleasant ninety-minute walk with a birding expert from the Audubon Society.  These programs are free but we prefer that you preregister with Dana@LRNow.org or 757-962-5398.

Sea Level Rise & Your Business
Join VCC for Breakfast on October 21, 7:30 - 9:30 AM
Town Point Club, Norfolk

You are invited to join the Virginia Coastal Coalition for the inaugural event of the Virginia Coastal Coalition's Sea Level Rise and Your Business breakfast series focusing on how local businesses can prepare, mitigate losses, and adapt to recurrent flooding and sea level rise in Hampton Roads.  You will hear why Hampton Roads busin
esses should engage in flood-control adaptation efforts and hear what they can do to prepare themselves in the event that flooding impairs their ability to do business. 

Coffee and networking begin at 7:30 AM, with the panel beginning at 8:00 AM.  The panel includes Susan Leidy with the Chrysler Museum, James Fuqua with Towne Insurance, and Christine Morris and Robert Tajan with the City of Norfolk.

VB Comp Plan Open Houses 
 
Every five years, Virginia Beach takes a new look at its long-term plan for development.  It's called the Comprehensive Plan, It's Our Future, and the City would like your input.  The City Council, in conjunction with the Planning Commission, will host open houses across the city to discuss issues like land use, transportation, preserving neighborhoods, the environment, economic development, and parks and open space.
You are invited to the following public open houses, held from 7-9 PM.

Smooth Sumac



Smooth Sumac grows well in full sun or part shade to a height of 9-15 feet and a spread of 9-15 feet.
The flower color is yellow-green and the fruit color that appears in autumn is red to maroon.

Can be massed for stabilizing embankments with poor soil.
