Pearl Home Backyard Tour
Sunday, May 4,  1:00-4:00 P.M.
LRNow presents our first very special garden tour.
We will be visiting waterfront properties on the Lynnhaven River to see model living shoreline projects, oyster castles, buffer gardens, rain gardens and more.  It will be a beautifull and informative afternoon.  And you may go home inspired.
Join us on our Pearl Home bus for a day of touring
some of the watershed's greenest waterfront homes!
Get the inside scoop on actions your neighboring
Pearl Homes have taken to restore the river.  Cost is $10 for the first guest, but you can bring another person for just $1 extra!
Sign up by calling (757)962-5398 or email
Bird Walk at Pleasure House Point
Friday, May 2, 7:30 AM

Join us at Pleasure House Point, on of the major stopovers of migratory birds on the Atlantic Flyway, to take a walk through the property in search of birds.  What better way to go bird watching than with an avid Audubon birder at this ideal location.

This event is free, but please register by calling 757-962-5398 or email
Pearl School Applications
Due Friday, May 9th

We have listened to you, the teachers, and have made major modifications to the Pearl School application process.  Not only have we put the application

GWICon-line, but we have simplified the application and added more opportunities to get points by encouraging projects across grade levels and across disciplines.
To access the application, go to:

Fifty-one schools received the Pearl School Award last year.  Our goal is at least 60 Pearl Schools this year.  And don't forget that you can start to collect points for next year's application on May 10th!

Free Rain Barrels for Faith Communities
Nine Available

LRNow has nine rain barrels like the one pictured that are available free to any faith community in Virginia Beach.  If your church, synagogue, temple, or other faith group can use one of these rain barrels, please contact Pam Northam at

Rain Barrels are an easy way to reduce the run off from your property and make the water available for your gardens or other outdoor uses.  You will be contributed to less stormwater and a cleaner river!
River Cleanup
Saturday, May 10

Come out to our next river cleanup Saturday, May 10, join in the fun and feel good about contributing to a cleaner river.  We will be cleaning in London Bridge Creek in the Lynnhaven Mall area.  We will put in our kayaks and canoes at the Hutton Circle canoe and kayak launch site at Hutton Circle and Virginia Beach Boulevard. Call 757-962-5398 or email for more information or to sign up.

Access to a canoe or kayak is required.  There may be extra seats, or openings for a couple of people to do a land-based cleanup.

Cleanups are held the second Saturday of each month throughout the year.  Mark your calendar now to help out.  If you are aware of an area of the river that needs a cleanup, please let us know.  Also, if your business would like to be a sponsor of one of our cleanups, please contact us.

Happy Earth Day

We are thankful for all of the ways the natural environment supports and enriches our lives.
