Running News

Running Journal Grand Prix 39 starts Aug. 26 with the Midnight Flight 10K in Anderson, SC. The popular nighttime event also features a 5K and a mile run. Held at the Anderson Area YMCA. Follow the Grand Prix by starting with this "cool" nighttime event.

Joan Benoit Samuelson has been appointed to the board of directors of the Road Runners Club of America as an at-large director. Great appointment for the RRCA of this inspirational, much admired Olympic Marathon champion and competitive masters runner.

Let it happen. Allow. Run easy. Life is fun but it's a marathon. Every step a challenge, every step accomplishment in life's run.

Kate Murphy of Burke, VA ran the third-fastest ever female prep 1500 meters at the adidas Boost Boston Games, finishing in 4:07:21. She is a rising high school senior. Story at www.Running.Net.

AJC Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta will feature a rematch of last year's closest-ever 10K finish. Scott Overall of Great Britain nipped American Ben Payne. American Olympian Jared Ward (3rd in marathon trial) will also compete July 4 along with top female marathoners at the world's largest 10K.

Go! Mile champions at Little Rock, Arkansas were Allen Eke of Plainfield, NJ,  in 4:21.49, and Jessica Kamilos of Fayetteville in 4:43.28. Story at www.Running.Net.

Efficiency required in the long run, you envision success mile by mile, imagery that conditions the brain. You can do it. You will. You must. You finish what you start.

Safety on the roads. How many flashing lights and reflectors are needed when running in the dark, especially if a runner has headphones? Read the thoughts of Ray Krolewicz, who encountered such a runner. www.Running.Net.

Molly Huddle will make her marathon debut in the New York City Marathon. She's run the half marathon in 1:07:41.

Odd and crazy? Non-runners have often viewed runners as a little odd and crazy. Lena Hollmann has some thoughts on this in her musings on age groups and age grading. See story at www.Running.Net.

Do you run when happy, sad, good days, bad, or all of these? As one runner said, "Don't think, just go out the door. You can think later."

Hot weather running can be very dangerous. See tips from the Road Runners Club of America at www.Running.Net.
