Run and live longer. A study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology concluded that people who jogged or ran for as little as five minutes a day reduced their risk of premature death by nearly one-third and extended their lives by about three years. Researchers examined the exercise habits of more than 55,000 adults in the Dallas area who were monitored for six to 22 years. Keep on running

Longest race in North Carolina, distance wise? That question has been raised by some runners who may just be planning something. Anyone know the longest distance? We know there are 100-milers.

The Vulcan Run 10K will take place Nov. 8 at Birmingham, AL. It's also the 2014 Alabama RRCA 10K State Championship. What started as the Bicentennial Run in November 1975 with 221 runners has grown into one of the popular road races in the Southeast with over 1500 runners last year.

Fort Smith Marathon, will be held Feb. 8, 2015 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.http://fortsmithmarathon.com.

This road is long, but repetitive steps shorten its length. You are constantly nearer attainment. Just a little more. A little while and you will have lived, and died, and conquered, and shall be reborn. You will be a marathoner.

Healthy Kids Running Series, Fleet Feet Nashville, TN, 5 weeks Pre-K-8th grade, all receive medal & gift bag. Excellent idea, recommended.

Achievement comes to those who run the full distance. Life's marathon is measured one step at a time. Each step brings you closer to your goals, no matter the distance. Miles accumulate as you achieve and live better.

Running tip -- It's not uncommon to feel some anxiety about completing a new distance. Counter negative thoughts with a positive mantra, such as "I can do this" or "My friends are still in bed or on the couch and I am rocking this." Focus only on the time remaining until the next walk break or stopping point.  Thanks to Breakaway Running: www.BreakawayMemphis.com
