Mary Ballinger, 26, broke the course record by over a minute at The Bear 5-miler, an uphill course at Grandfather Mountain, NC, in 34:41.9.

Boston Marathon Registration for the 2015 event will open on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same process to register qualified runners as it used for the Boston Marathon in 2012, 2013 and 2014, allowing the fastest qualifiers in their gender and age group to register first The 119th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015.

 

Woolly Worm Woad Wace - This Oct. 11 five-miler and mile fun run at Banner Elk, NC, in the mountains of Western North Carolina, occurs a week prior to the world famous Woolly Worm Festival, Oct. 18-19, in downtown Banner Elk when youngsters race Woolly Worms up strings on a big stage and with thousands of spectators cheering them on. Run the race, then return a week later for an incredible festival in the park. Lots of tents full of wares, plenty of good food, and you'll learn all about a different running event. You can visit Grandfather Mountain while you're there, too.

 

Jill Reich is the new president of the Twin City Track Club of Winston-Salem, NC. She wrote in the club newsletter that she grew up on the dirt roads of Forsyth County back in the 1970's and never dreamed of becoming the club president. "But through all the forks, turns, and detours of life, here I am."

 

Sara Webb, volunteer coordinator of the Knoxville Track Club in Tennessee, read this headline a few years ago: "Those The Can, Do. Those That Can Do More, Volunteer!" That headline remains important to her.

 

Peter Pressman, president of the Nashville Striders ran the Casper Marathon in Wyoming. Elevation there is 5300 feet and the course "was certainly not flat. "I finished upright and with a smile," he said as he added another state on his quest to run a marathon in all 50 states.

 

Paul Riefberg has had his 2:59 finish at the 1972 New York City Marathon certified - 15,241 days later. Paul had showed up a few minutes late but was given his number. Later, he was disqualified for being late. Good ending for this Texas runner who was very active in southern races.
