The Screening Dilemma...
What's the Deal with Green Giant Arborvitae (Again!)?
| Deer resistant screening - Norway Spruce! |
Some of you loyal readers might recall this article from May 1st last year...
"This time of year while winter is still fresh in your customer's minds many of you are receiving calls for screening. Green Giant Arborvitae (Thuja plicata 'Green Giant') seems to be the one many of you are looking for as it is a fast growing Arborvitae that has proven to be quite deer resistant. Certain sizes, especially the smaller/medium sizes, have become difficult to source. During the economic downturn many growers weren't able to line out large quantities of product in the fields due to financial constraints. Fast forward to 2015 and the result is a limitation on availability, especially Green Giant Arborvitae in those smaller sizes."
The same thing holds true this year. The fact is that there just aren't enough plants around in general this year, not just Green Giants.
But we get it, your customers don't want a lecture on economics, they want screening! So we suggest using Norway Spruce. We have some beauties in both yards to select from.

This Week's ID
|
Goldmoss Stonecrop is one of those finishing touch plants that can be used in rock gardens, along stone walkways, atop retaining walls, you name it! It will be happy as long as it has full sun and very well-drained soil. Later in spring their tips are covered in golden yellow flowers typical of Sedum.
Pick up a few 4" pots and give them a try this spring!
