There are many ornamental and shade trees coming into their fall display including Japanese Katsura, Persian Parrotia and these Red and Sugar Maples. News from Watertown   Let's Dig Big!

Digging big trees
The big tree spade is currently digging larger Norway Spruce with 50-60" root balls. They can also dig large White Pine and Canadian Hemlock upon request. Please talk with your sales person if that is something you need.
Thanks to the rain and cooler nights it's time to dig! Mat, Victor and Galvino make a great team - they're  working with our largest tree spade at the farm digging some big, beautiful Norway Spruce 12/14' & 14/16'. Safely digging trees this size takes knowledge, skill and big equipment
Anyone looking for instant screening or have a large-scale project calling for big evergreens? Give either office a call soon.

With such a wide range of color possibilities you can use them in large sweeps of monochomatic blocks or create a blend of complimentary colors to fit just about any palette. But, with so many classes of Tulips it can be difficult choosing the right type for your jobs. Check out our selection of Darwin Hybrids - it's a good place to start!

In a Haze? Not till you've walked through the Muhly Grass!

Muhly GrassThe Muhlenbergia capillaris (Hairawn Muhly or Muhly Grass) is in full swing right now showing off it's pink inflorescence on stiff upright stems. Growing to 3-4' high and wide it's obviously best planted in large groups like this to make an impact. Great on it's own or planted with perennials like Threadleaf Bluestar (Amsonia hubrichtii), Purple or Pink Asters, Helen von Stein Lamb's Ear (Stachys byzantina). Even the seedheads of Purple Coneflowers (Echinacea) left standing make a great contrast.

This Week's I.D.
Plant I.D.
This week's I.D. was the Willowleaf Cotoneaster - a useful semi-evergreen groundcover that has a softer appearance than other Cotoneasters mainly because of the larger leaves and looser habit. Flower clusters in spring develop into bright red fruit that persists into the winter months.
Growing 18" x 36"+ it makes a fast spreading groundcover that even looks good in fall as their leaves turn a purplish-red in the colder months! Zone 6-9.
