Big, Beautiful Trees

Sometime you just need LARGE!

Cherokee Brave Dogwood
Cornus florida 'Cherokee Brave' 6-7"

We've had several weeks of deliveries and along with our usual material we've received in some beautiful large specimen flowering and shade trees. That's great news for your clients who need mature trees for an established look or are just keen on going big! Many are 5" caliper+ and some top off at 20' or more.
Are you interested but have questions about how to handle these larger trees? Talk to your salesperson or call the sales line about the logistics.

Plants to Know
Corylopsis pauciflora

Buttercup Winterhazel
Not a great shot but you get the idea - a haze of butter-yellow!

One of our favorite shrubs  is the Buttercup Winterhazel. In a few words it's a delicate shrub that shines in a pre-green landscape. Aptly named, the flowers don't scream spring but are a soft butter-yellow that gently call your attention. Growing approximately 4-6' tall it has plump flower and leaf buds arranged alternately on long arching branches - they look great in a vase and force easily.  They are best planted in part shade in acidic soil - perfect for the woodland garden. Don't forget about our other Winterhazel, C. spicata. Same soft yellow but longer fragrant flowers with a coarser branching habit. Check out this detailed article from The American Nurseryman all about Winterhazel

Look for our PC Grown Winterhazels in 3 and 6 gallon containers soon and enjoy them this spring!

Pulmonaria 'Blue Ensign'
Blue Ensign Pulmonaria

Holly will be sending down some eye-catching pictures from the yard in Watertown throughout the season and she thought this blue gem makes a great start!

Lungwort - Pulmonaria saccharata 'Blue Ensign' - there's not much cheerier than this sweet perennial for part shade - it's one of our first spring bloomers besides the Lenten Rose (Helleborus). Look for them in either sales yard in our #1 containers.

Thanks Holly!
