Golden Fernleaf Cypress

Golden Fernleaf Cypress
10-12' Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Tetragona Aurea'

Ed picked a nice evergreen specimen this week - a great one for a prominent place in the landscape. Golden Fernleaf Cypress Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Tetragona Aurea' is a good anchor plant for a conifer garden, entryway or foundation planting. A slow grower, it will reach about 15' forming a low-maintenance (almost never needs pruning) pyramid. Plant in full sun to part shade, though it does appreciate protection from strong afternoon sun. Moist, well-drained soil is what this plant needs for optimum performance. Start it off with a good planting fertilizer like Roots or Healthy Start. It's really a beautiful conifer, and at 10-12' it will make an instant impression!

Some of Our Favorite Bulbs

Bulb strip

Ask anyone what their favorite spring bulb is and they're happy to share - even some of our crew!

  • Drew - Narcissus 'Thalia' for it's white flower and later bloom time
  • John - Fritillaria lutea (actually all the larger "Frits") for their umbrella-like clusters on tall stalks and their rodent and deer resistance
  • Suz - Narcissus 'Mt. Hood' for their strong stalks with large white trumpets
  • Jeff - He's loving the Rembrandt Tulip Mix, that combo looks awesome - multi-colored single late tulips in reds, whites and yellows - each with a contrasting splash of color
  • Tom - Narcissus 'Geranium' because they are so fragrant and make a great cut flower
  • Mark - Mixed Crocus coming up in a well-maintained lawn!
  • Darryl - The smaller Narcissus like 'Tete-a-tete' or the white 'Thalia' because the foliage is more delicate - great for mixing in with perennials and underplanting shrubs
  • Barbara - Galanthus (Snow Drops) for their cute little, early white flowers signaling that winter's on its way O-U-T!
  • Charlie - ditto to Barb's on the Galanthus plus he also likes the large Leucojum (Summer Snowflake)
  • Ross - He loved the Tulip combination he saw once on a large estate: the later blooming 'Queen of the Night' (deep almost black-purple) and 'Maureen'  (white)
  • Ed - Narcissus 'Dutchmaster' planted in large masses to make a big statement welcoming spring
  • Susan - Chionodoxa (Glory of the Snow) for the small blue flowers that open after the crocus and because they spread so nicely with narrow foliage that just melts away

Head over to either office and check them out. Many of our personal favorites are special order - if available we'll have them ready for pick up in a week or so. Look for your favorites in the Spring Bulb Brochure on the counters.
