Salt damaged White Pine and unaffected Limber Pine

(Left and center) Salt-damaged White Pine,

(and to the right) a stand of 3-4 Limber Pine

Need to replace White Pine lost to salt spray? Take a good look at Pinus flexilis ! On 4/28 I was making a delivery on the shore in Stratford where White Pines in almost every yard have been compromised by salt spray from recent storms. Then I happened to see some Limber Pine (Pinus flexilis) among the affected White Pines that showed no signs of damage! I took these pictures with my cell phone. Consider our Pinus flexilis 'Vanderwolf Pyramid' in assorted sizes. A great plant and a good choice for the coast.

Our first crop of Crimson Pointe Purple Plum, Prunus cerasifera 'Crimson Pointe', are above ground at our tree farms.

It has a narrow vase-like habit, with whiter flowers than either Krauter's Vesuvius or Thundercloud.  Crimson Pointes benefit from the crown being thinned out in early spring.  When trimming, try leaving the last bud pointing out, so they develop a beautiful, round head.

TecnuBe Prepared!

Now is the time to stock up with a great product that will help when you know (or think you know) that you've been in contact with Poison Ivy or Poison Oak.

Whether you were just out pulling it or  if the rash has already appeared - just rub it on the affected area and rinse off with cool water. It calms the itch and keeps it from spreading.

Protect yourself and your crew - with Tecnu!
